Ayurvedic Medicines for Tularemia Treatment

Tularemia is the kind of disease which can infect both people as well as animals. Rabbits are especially one of them mostly dying due to this disease and there are several ways it can infect humans. It was first diagnosed in the 1950s in the United states and was mostly found in water or mud. They make necrotic lesions that are 1mm to 8 cm in diameter and are white yellow in color. If not treated it can lead to many health problems and not many people know about this rare disorder. So, through this article we are going to discuss Tularemia in detail and also its treatment through herbal medicine.


Tularemia which is also known as rabbit fever is the infectious disease which is mainly caused due to the bacteria called Francisella tularensis. It typically causes infection in the parts like eyes, skin, lungs and lymph nodes. This commonly leads to clinical features like pneumonia, fever, ulcers and throat infection as well. It can spread to human beings in many ways including deer, flies and ticks as well. Females are most likely to suffer from Tularemia as compared to Males. It is commonly seen in the young and middle aged people as compared to old age people. It is commonly seen in the United States especially during the summer season.



Most of the people who are exposed to tularemia usually suffer from sickness within the time span of four to six days. There are different types of tularemia and each one has its own symptoms including:-

Typhoidal Tularemia

It is one of the rare as well as serious ones and this includes:-

  • Pain in muscle
  • Soreness in throat
  • Fever with chills
  • Pneumonia
  • Enlargement of spleen
  • Enlargement of liver

Oropharyngeal Tularemia

This mainly affects the digestive tract, mouth and throat. This includes some signs like:-

  • Inflammation of tonsils
  • Pain in abdomen
  • Ulcers in mouth
  • Pain in Throat
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Inflammation of tonsils
  • Inflamed lymph nodes

Pneumonic Tularemia

This includes some symptoms like:-

  • Dry cough
  • Pain in chest
  • Difficulty in breathing


Tularemia does not occur in humans naturally and is not transmitted from one person to the other. However, tularemia is found all over the world especially in the rural areas because there are many insects and birds.  Just like some other diseases it can easily spread from animals to human beings. Here are some of the common causes:-

  • Exposure to Dead Animals - Ulceroglandualr tularemia is one of the types caused by being bitten by the infected animals. The bacteria can easily enter through the abrasion or small wounds and then they can form ulcers on the spot.  It can also enter into the eyes while rubbing and leading to ocular type tularemia.
  • Airborne Bacteria - Bacteria present in the soil which can be inhaled during construction, physical activities and gardening as well. The inhalation of the bacteria can result in pneumonia.
  • Insect Bites:- There are many insects that might carry the tularemia, deer flies and ticks might carry them.
  • Food or Water being Contaminated - It is very easy to consume the infection through the undercooked food or drinking water that is contaminated.

People who are living in certain countries like the United States, Europe, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota are most commonly suffering from the disease.

Certain Hobbies or Occupation

  • People working in wildlife management - Working with domestic or wildlife animals increases the risk of developing tularemia.
  • Gardening - People who do landscaping or are gardeners are at great risk as they might inhale it through the soil.
  • Hunting - As while hunting it is normal to get exposed to the blood of wild animals and this puts them at risk.


  • It is very rare to diagnose the disease but some of the blood tests can help in ruling out the disease.
  • X-Ray can help in ruling out pneumonia which is very common in tularemia.

1. Manjishtha Capsules

Along with that it's helpful in treating ailments like skin ulcers, tonsils, pneumonia which is commonly seen in Tularemia. Dosage - One capsule twice daily with water after meals.

2. Giloy Capsules

This herbal formation is made from an herb called Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia) which is one of the strong immune-boosters. It is one of the best herbs for skin as it helps in fighting free radicals as it is packed with antioxidants helping in improving the circulation of blood.
