These eye injuries vary in symptoms, they may lie in a mild range of symptoms and are also not going to cause non-sight threatening, but may cause extremely serious illness with blind consequences. Hyphema is an accumulation of red blood cells that enters the front (anterior) chamber of the eye between the iris and the cornea, its most common cause is traumatic injury. In this article, we are going to discuss hyphema, its reasons, its symptoms, and its preventive measures with Ayurvedic management.

Hyphema

Introduction

Hyphema is the pooling of RBCs in the anterior chamber of the eye, between the iris and the cornea, this symptom is directly caused by traumatic injuries. This anterior chamber of the eye is filled with a clear fluid that is referred to as aqueous humour, folds of the posterior chamber that are named ciliary processes are responsible to make this fluid, then cross through the pupils into the anterior chambers of the eyes. This pooling of blood may cover a maximum part of the iris and pupil and may hamper the vision, halfly or completely. A hyphema is a very painful condition, if not treated on time then it may cause permanent damage to the vision problems.

What Causes Hyphema?

A most common cause is -

  • Blunt eye trauma can be caused due to sports injuries.
  • Penetrating trauma and spontaneous hyphemas can occur as well.
  • Road accidents.
  • Abnormal blood vessels developed on the surface of the iris.
  • Infection of eyes can occur due to herpes zoster.
  • Haemophilia and sickle cell anaemia are the two blood clotting diseases that may develop Hyphema.
  • Cancer of eyes.
  • Intraocular lens diseases.

Presentation Of The Hyphema

70% of the symptoms are seen in children, especially between the 10-20 years of males, they are usually caused by blunt injuries like while playing games, accidents that can be road or may happen in industries also, accidents in industries, may fall in-ground or from height, fights or during shooting with guns.

  • Decrease in vision or a loss of vision
  • Pain around the eyes.
  • Sensitivity to the light.
  • Vision with a red tint.
  • If someone is having microhyphema then it may have slightly blurred or normal vision, but if someone is not having vision anymore, then this will be a complete hyphema.
  • This condition may improve with time when the blood gradually goes down and accumulates in between the iris and cornea or in the anterior chamber of the eye.
  • Complete hyphema condition is the most severe in which the blood fills the chamber entirely.

Facts About Hyphema

  • The incidence of traumatic hyphema is 15 out of 1,00,000 people but this commonly occurs in children.
  • Males are more prone to get this disease because they are more involved in gaming activities as compared to females.
  • Children are typically affected because they get involved in basketball games, baseball games, or soccer that strike the anterior surface of the eye.

Ayurvedic View Of Hyphema

In Ayurveda, there are various Vetra rogas, that are mentioned by Acharya Charak, Acharya Sushrut, Ashtang Hruday, etc. Hyphema is a condition in which pitta dosha and rakta dhatu get vitiated. It can be caused by abhighata (Trauma) to the native place of the eye. Then due to these factors netra srotas are being vitiated by kapha dosha and its gunas, it shows its powerful effects on the intraocular circulation and the drainage of the affected area slows down. So in this disease, we used to balance all the doshas and do the treatment that is pitta and rakta dosha shamak and is rasayana in nature.

Cauda Equina Syndrome

INTRODUCTION

Cauda equina is a latin word translated as the horse tail. The cauda equina is the end part of the spinal cord where there is a collection of nerves. Due to resemblance of this part with the tail of the horse, it is referred to as cauda equina. The cauda equina syndrome is marked as a condition in which there is abnormality or dysfunction of multiple nerve roots such as the lumbar and sacral, etc. of the cauda equina. It is an emergency condition that requires regent medical attention. Unavailability of appropriate medical help can worsen the situation and have adverse results such as paralysis, impaired bladder and bowel movements, and various other neurological conditions, etc. The causes of cauda equina are described as follows.

CAUSES OF CAUDA EQUINA SYNDROME

There could be a variety of causes underlying the condition of cauda equina syndrome which will differ from patient to patient. The most common cause being the presence of a herniated disc of large size in the lumbar region. Various other possible causes of cauda equina syndrome include congenital deformities (birth defect), lumbar spine stenosis, lesions or tumors in the spine, etc. There can be iatrogenic causes also such as spinal anesthesia or as a postoperative complication of lumbar spine surgery. These causes along with numerous other causes can result in various presentations of the cauda equina syndrome which will be described as follows.

SYMPTOMS OF CAUDA EQUINA SYNDROME

The cauda equina syndrome is characterized by a wide range of features which depends on the extent of compression of the nerve roots. The patient may experience few or all of the following features such as -

  • Disturbed urine urge - The patient does not feel the urge to pass urine or the normal sensation to urinate even when his/ her bladder is filled with urine.
  • Reduced or no voluntary control over urine and bowel movement - The patient may experience incontinence of urine due to the overful bladder and the anal sphincter dysfunction will lead to fecal incontinence.

  • The weakness may be felt either in one or both the lower extremities.
  • There could be various difficulties or sensory disturbances related to anus, buttock region or the genital region. The patient may also face sexual dysfunction.

If there is presence of these features in anyone, he/she must be provided with urgent medical attention and detailed evaluation should be performed to identify or diagnose the condition.

DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT

Diagnosing the cauda equina syndrome will require the detailed medical history of the patient. There can be different types of diagnostic tests that will be helpful in diagnosing the cauda equina syndrome such as MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), CT (Computed tomography) scan and myelogram, etc. After the diagnosis, immediate medical management must be provided. The line of treatment according to the modern system of medicine will indicate surgery as the main aim will be to remove the compression from the nerve roots. Urgent medical attention is required to deal with the scenario appropriately, in lack of the management, consequences may be very severe such as permanent paralysis and incontinence. Let’s discuss the ayurvedic perspective of the cauda equina syndrome.

AYURVEDIC ASPECT

The cauda equina syndrome presents similarities with various conditions described in ayurveda such as gridhrasi, khanja and pangu. It should not be designated with one name but can be associated with dushti of the vata dosha. There are five types of vata dosha mentioned in the ayurvedic texts namely, prana vayu, udana vayu, samana vayu, vyana vayu and apana vayu. In the condition of cauda equina syndrome, there is vitiation or dushti of the vata vaha srotas and considering the clinical manifestations, the affected regions are the adho nabhgata region and the vyana vayu and apana vayu are more prominently vitiated. The treatment methodology will target the equilibrium of the vata dosha levels to restore the health of the body. This can be achieved by using various ayurvedic formulations such as vrihat vat chintamani ras, ashwagandharishta, dashmularishta, etc. These ayurvedic formulations beneficial for the patients of cauda equina syndrome will be described as follows.

Ayurvedic Correlation & Indicators Of Hemapheresis

Abstract

The measurement of viscosity of blood plasma using in vitro techniques only gives us partial information about the characteristics of blood flow however they provide information regarding the rheological properties of blood which is helpful in developing new hemorheological therapeutic modalities. In the past few years the evidence based approaches have given us a better way to understand the clinical role of therapeutic hemapheresis in various diseases for patients which gives better results and information regarding the different uses of therapeutic hemapheresis. Hemapheresis is related to raktamokshana therapy of Ayurveda; it is mainly described by Acharya Shushruta in sushruta samhita. Various indications of hemapheresis were given in ayurveda and modern therapy.

Hemapheresis

Introduction

Hemapheresis words come from Greek words heme and apheresis. In Greek "Heme"means blood and apheresis means to take away or separate. Hemapheresis treatment is used for different spectrums of illness. In this procedure abnormal cells are removed from blood to treat the hematologic, oncologic and neurological disorders. Replacement of abnormal cells with the normal constituent of blood also help in increasing the immunity, improving the retico endothelial function or increase the responses of conventional therapy. Therapeutic hemapheresis with the use of automated blood processing equipment is very useful in selectively deplete, exchange, replace or atleast manipulation of soluble blood components.

Procedure Of Hemapheresis

Hemapheresis is the procedure which involves removal of blood from a patient or donor. It is done with the help of a centrifuge machine which helps to separate the components of blood after this separation. One which needs to be drawn is withdrawal and rest of the components transfused back in the body of the patient or donor. Blood components which are separating and withdrawn out are:

  1. Plasma - plasmapheresis
  2. Platelet - plateletpheresis
  3. Leukocyte - Leukapheresis

Therapeutic Indication Of Hemapheresis

  • Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura
  • Guillain Barre Syndrome
  • Leukaemia Induced Leukocytosis
  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Hypertriglyceridemia
  • Leukostasis
  • Myeloproliferative
  • Lymphoma

Contraindication Of Hemapheresis

  • Bleeding disorder
  • Anaemic patient
  • Patient taking medicine like - vitamin e, aspirin, heparin
  • Vasovagal reactions
  • Discomfort
  • Hypovolemia And Hypotension

Ayurvedic Correlation Of Hemapheresis

In ayurveda hemapheresis is related to raktamokshan which is further divided into various raktashodhana techniques which has immense potential to treat blood related disorders. Due to wider studies given in ayurveda it helps in clearing all the misunderstanding, misconceptions related to the therapy and reestablishing our ancient techniques. Raktamokshan is considered to be one of the panchkarma that is why it is considered as ardha chikitsa of shalya tantra.

According to ayurveda, Rakta is considered to be one of the seven dhatu from ras, rakta, mas ,meda, asthi, majja and shukra. These all are body tissues as we know different diseases occured with disruption of these dhatus and to maintain a good health these all should work properly. The word rakta comes from the Sanskrit word "ras ranjane" meaning red colour. As per Acharya sushruta the symptoms of purified blood (Shuddha Rakta) is as follows :-

Blood which looks like indragopa (beetle), it is not thick and discoloured. When the blood is vitiated from its normal property then it is needed to purify. In ayurveda many raktashodhak drugs were given. If someone needed instant results for this then raktamokshan can be done as guided in Ayurvedic medicinal textbooks.

Herbal Remedies for Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease

ABSTRACT

The viral diseases are affecting our day to day a lot these days. You never know when a virus will hit you and you will land in bed with fever, cold, cough and other symptoms. On top of that viral diseases are more contagious than bacterial diseases. The viral diseases can spread from from adult to adult, adult to child, child to child and even child to adult. Moving further the question arises how we are going to stop a virus from entering our body? The quick answer to this question is: We cannot stop anything from entering our body but we can build a strong defence system that will surely help in protecting our body. Coming back to viral diseases, in this article our topics of discussion is Hand, Foot and mouth disease which is caused by the viruses. The article also has information about the Ayurvedic management of hand, mouth and foot disease.

Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease

INTRODUCTION

Hand, Foot and mouth disease is also called coxsackie viral infection. The disease is one of the most common viral infections caused by the Coxsackievirus A16. Mostly the children under the age of 10 years are affected but teens and adults can also get this infection. The season for this infection falls in between summer and early fall. The viral disease,  as mentioned above, is highly contagious and spreads from person to person. This infection even passes through stools. But this infectious disease can be prevented. The condition is a bit painful if there is blister formation and there is no specific vaccination to prevent it.

Let's Know More About Hand, Mouth And Foot Disease

CAUSES OF HAND, MOUTH AND FOOT DISEASE

The cause for hand, mouth and foot disease is the virus which belongs to the Enterovirus family. The virus called Coxsackievirus A16 is responsible for causing this condition.

According to Ayurveda, if your body is having a strong defence system no virus can cause harm to you. The viruses are called agantuk karan for the development of disease. But these agantuk karan can only cause harm when your body’s vyadhi shamatv is henna, which means the fighting capacity of the body with the bacterias and viruses is low. This makes the body prone to being attacked by the microorganisms and hence results in dosha imbalance. In this the thermal energy of the body is being disturbed that is pitta dosha.

SPREAD OF HAND, MOUTH AND FOOT DISEASE

The spread of the causative agent Coxsackievirus A16 is through coughs, sneezes, poo and fluid which is secreted from the blisters. One can start spreading this virus even before getting the symptoms. The most common spread routes are as follows:

  • A person with infection when sneezing or coughing or blowing their nose near you. The tiny droplets from their mouth can spread the virus, easy and quick.
  • When you touch your nose, eyes or mouth after touching something infectious like a doorknob or a toy.
  • If a person comes in contact with an infected person's stool or secretion from blisters.

After discussing the causes and mode of spreading of hand, mouth and foot disease, Let’s discuss its symptoms.

SYMPTOMS OF HAND, MOUTH AND FOOT DISEASE

The viral infection starts with the following symptoms:

  • High grade fever, along with a peculiar pink rash on the other parts of  the body especially buttocks and thighs. This is usually seen in small kids. But there might be a case in which a child may not have such symptoms and instead will suffer from just a sore throat and fever of low grade.
  • The blisters which are commonly seen in Hand, mouth and foot disease will also have some particular specifications. The blisters in this condition are small bubbles shaped with fluid on the top. If you peel them off it will leave an ulcer and will be sore with a reddish base. The blisters are common over the feet and palms of the hands. They may appear like red spots or Red rash.
  • These two symptoms are generally associated with muscle aches and total fatigue in the body.
  • The person or a child becomes irritable and sleeps more than usual.
  • Drooling in very young children may also be seen due to soreness in the throat causing painful swallowing.
  • A desire to have cold fluids is consistently present.
  • In severe cases mouth sores can also be present which makes the situation worse. They can be present in children, teens or even in Adults.

HOW IS HAND, MOUTH AND FOOT DISEASE TREATED?

  • The hand, mouth and foot diseases are treated with certain medications like ibuprofen if the patient is achy or irritable.
  • In case of mouth ulcers some topical anaesthetics can be given to the patient to avoid pain and difficulty eating.
  • Rest treatment is provided according to symptoms.

In Ayurveda, the treatment is also given according to the symptoms like in case of fever preparations prepared using giloy, haridra are given.

In case of mouth ulcers, gargling with decoction of certain herbs is prescribed.

Blisters over skin like on hands and feet can be well managed using Ayurvedic herbal preparations containing manjishtha, haritaki, bibhitaki, amalaki, vacha, devdaru etc. The ayurvedic herbs work like blood purifiers and help to act as an anti-infective.

RISK FACTORS FOR HAND, MOUTH AND FOOT DISEASE

  • The younger children are at risk. Especially children below the age of 5 years.
  • Children in child care centres are susceptible to outbreaks.
  • The child whose sibling is suffering is more likely to get this disease.
  • Even an adult with weak immunity can catch this infection while taking care of the child.
  • Not maintaining proper hygiene is also one of the risk factors for catching this condition.

COMPLICATIONS OF HAND, MOUTH AND FOOT DISEASE

The children suffering from this disease may land in some complications if not taken care of properly. The complications are as follows:

  • Viral meningitis (Inflammation of brain membranes)
  • Encephalitis (Inflammation of entire brain)

PREVENTION FROM HAND, MOUTH AND FOOT DISEASE

  • Disinfect clothing, bedding and other things if someone in the house is infected
  • Teach your children good hygiene habits
  • In case of more than one child in the house, the infected one has to be isolated from the rest. Even if an adult is having Hand, mouth and foot disease then he/she has to be isolated from the rest of the members of the family.

Treatment for Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria in Ayurveda

ABSTRACT

The world around us is filling deep with a lot of things these days, some are positive and some are totally negative. The negative additions in the world are in the form of crimes, deaths, hatred, jealousy and most importantly diseases. We never have thought about what is the cause of a disease. Some people are even like “it's all luck one may get that one may not get that”. But obviously the one who will suffer from a disease will always question why me? In this article also we are going to discuss a rare disease named paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria and will also discuss its causes, symptoms and treatment according to both modern and Ayurveda.

Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria

INTRODUCTION

The Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria is an acquired form of hemoglobinuria rather than inherited. The condition is life -threatening disease of blood which is characterized by destruction of red blood cells, blood clots and impaired bone marrow function. Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria or PNH is closely related to aplastic anemia. The disease affects RBCs (Red blood cells) which carry oxygen, white blood cells which protect the body from various types of infections and thrombocytes or platelets which are involved in blood clotting. The condition can occur at any age and is often diagnosed in young adulthood. The people with PNH have sudden and recurring episodes of symptoms. Such episodes can be triggered by stress which can be mental or physical.

CAUSES OF PAROXYSMAL NOCTURNAL HEMOGLOBINURIA

The causes of PNH are explained in below:

  • The variations or mutations in the PIGA gene cause almost all the cases of Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. Variations in the PIGT gene cause the rare and inflammatory form of the condition.
  • The proteins produced from both genes are involved in a multistep process which connects particular proteins to the surface of cells. These proteins are attached to the cells through a special molecule called a GPI anchor. GPI anchors are also called GPI anchored proteins.
  • The PIG-A protein helps in production of GPI anchors.  On the other hand PIG-T Protein helps in attaching the GPI anchor to proteins.
  • Anchored proteins have a variety of roles, including sticking cells to one another, relaying signals into cells and protecting cells from destruction.

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS OF PAROXYSMAL NOCTURNAL HEMOGLOBINURIA

The condition is having certain classical signs. Such signs are as follows:

  • Red discoloration of the urine due to presence of hemoglobin and hemosiderin from breakdown of red blood cells.
  • The Urine is more concentrated in the morning at this time the red discoloration is more prominent.
  • This phenomenon is common in those who have a primary form of PNH.
  • Other symptoms like anemia, tiredness, shortness of breath and palpitations as well.
  • A small proportion of patients report recurrent abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing and also pain during swallowing.
  • This also results in erectile dysfunction in men mainly at the times when  breakdown of red blood cells is rapid. It causes spasms of smooth muscles.
  • Nearly 40% of the population with Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria develops thrombosis as well.
  • Thrombosis is the main reason for the complications and deaths due to Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria.
  • The common sites for the development of the blood clots are legs leading to deep vein thrombosis and this can result in pulmonary embolism as well.

TYPES OF PAROXYSMAL NOCTURNAL HEMOGLOBINURIA

There are mainly two types of Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria:

  • One is, in the absence of any type of bone marrow correlation.
  • Another is where there is involvement of primary bone marrow disorders.

DIAGNOSING PAROXYSMAL NOCTURNAL HEMOGLOBINURIA

  • This condition is diagnosed when a blood test is performed. The blood tests in PNH generally show evidence for intravascular hemolytic anemia. There are low levels of hemoglobin, raised lactate dehydrogenase, raised bilirubin and decrease in the levels of haptoglobin.
  • No iron deficiency is detected.
  • The main diagnostic test for individuals with PNH or Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria is flow cytometry (lab tests used to analyze characteristics of cells or particles).

TREATMENT FOR PAROXYSMAL NOCTURNAL HEMOGLOBINURIA

  • The most common drug used for treating this condition is eculizumab. A newer drug is also introduced for treating this condition and it is named as ravulizumab.
  • Rest of the treatment runs according to the symptoms. Like drugs can be prescribed to stop the bleeding.
  • In case of low hemoglobin some supplements can be given to increase the volume of hemoglobin.
  • In the worst cases there is a possibility that bone marrow transplant is suggested.

AYURVEDIC ASPECT OF PAROXYSMAL NOCTURNAL HEMOGLOBINURIA

The Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria can be correlated with aggravated pitta dosha in Ayurveda along with the dushti of rakatveha srotas and majja dhatu. The aggravated pitta is responsible for this dushti and thus results in rakta pitta which is of ahdog type. Ahdog type of rakta pitta means bleeding from the lower openings of the body such as in this case. The pitta vitiation has also resulted in the aggravation of vata in this case due to  dhatu kshaya that is rakta dhatu. Due to kshaya of rakta dhatu there is a condition like pandu appears (anemia) which is again the reason for weakness and recurrent infections associated with Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria.

As there are two types mentioned then one type is just due to aggravation of pitta dosha and kshya of rakta dhatu leading to vitiation of vata.

In another type the aggravated vata dosha has now reached deeper dhatus and has started destroying them.

Monkeypox– Is It The Next Pandemic? - Ayurvedic Overview

ABSTRACT

Nature is full of surprises and the human race is facing these surprises day after day, month after month and year after year. Everyday we listen about some new challenges which are being faced by the human race. Some challenges are killable  enough and some make it sure that a person facing a challenge should suffer either for life or for death. Right now being a reader you might be curious what challenge this article has to tell about. This article is about monkeypox and whether it can be the next pandemic or not. In the last of the article we will discuss in detail about the Ayurvedic formulations that can help the person who is suffering from monkeypox.

Monkeypox Virus

INTRODUCTION

Monkeypox is a serious illness which is caused by the monkey virus. It is a viral zoonotic infection. Here, the zoonotic infections means the ones which can spread from animals to humans. Monkeypox has the capability to spread from person to person. The monkeypox virus is a member of the orthopoxvirus genus in the family poxviridae. The symptoms of monkeypox resemble smallpox but monkeypox is less severe than smallpox. With the eradication of smallpox in 1980 and subsequent cessation of smallpox vaccination, now monkeypox has emerged as the most important orthopoxvirus for public health. Primarily, monkeypox occurred in central and west africa, often in the proximity to the tropical rain forests but now increasingly appearing in urban areas. Animal hosts include a range of rodents and non-human primates like apes, monkeys etc.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Monkeypox is a viral zoonotic infection.
  • The first outbreak in the human race was in 1970 in democratic republic of congo.
  • The outbreak outside Africa was in the United states in 2003.
  • The hosts are either rodents or non- human  primates.
  • Animal to human transmission is called zoonotic. This transmission can occur from direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids or cutaneous or mucosal lesions of infected animals.
  • Human to human transmission can occur from close contact with respiratory secretions, skin lesions of an infected person or from recently contaminated objects.
  • Eating inadequately cooked meat and other animal products from  infected animals is a possible risk factor.
  • There is a decline in immunity due to cessation of smallpox vaccination.
  • Monkeypox virus can cross the blood placenta barrier and cause congenital monkeypox. It can also spread from the close contact with mother at the time of birth.

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS OF MONKEYPOX

The incubation period (interval from infection to onset of symptoms) of monkeypox is between 6 to 13 days but it can also vary between 5 to 21 days. The infection can be divided into two periods:

  • The invasion period
  • The skin eruptions

1. The Invasion Period

The invasion period lasts between 0-5 days. This is characterised by the presence of fever, intense headache, lymphadenopathy that is swelling of the lymph nodes, back pain,  myalgia or muscle aches and intense asthenia which is lack of energy. In this case swelling of lymph nodes is the distinctive feature of monkeypox. Lymphadenopathy also behaves as a differential characteristic to differentiate monkeypox from similar looking chicken pox, measles and smallpox.

2. The Skin Eruptions

  • This stage usually begins within 1-3 days after the appearance of fever. The rashes tend to be more concentrated on the face and extremities rather than on the trunk. These skin eruptions usually affect the face in 95% cases, palms and hands along with soles of feet in 75% cases, mucus membranes in 70% of the cases, genitalia in 30% of the cases and conjunctiva in 20% of the cases along with cornea.
  • The rashes evolve slowly from macules which are the lesions with flat base to papules which are slightly raised firm lesions. These papules convert into vesicles which are lesions filled with fluid and then pustules. Pustules are the lesions which are filled with yellowish fluid. Then crusts form which dry up and fall off.
  • The number of lesions varies from a few to a range of several thousand. In severe cases these lesions can coalesce until the large secretions of skin slough off.

The monkey pox is a self limited condition usually but can spread to the ones who are more close to the patient. The symptoms last from 2-4 weeks. underlying immune deficiencies can lead to worse outcomes. Earlier as mentioned before smallpox vaccination had protected the population from monkeypox but cessation of smallpox vaccination now has abstained from that protective sheath. Now people younger than 50 years of age are at risk of getting infected by monkeypox virus. The complications of monkeypox can also cause secondary infections, bronchopneumonia, sepsis, encephalitis and infections of cornea leading to loss of vision.

CAN PEOPLE DIE OF MONKEYPOX?

It all depends on the severity of the condition in a person. Aforementioned monkeypox can cause severe damage in the body in case of immune deficiencies. In the past also 1%-10% of the individuals have died due to monkeypox. One more factor to note is that the death rate may vary according to region and other factors like access to health care services.

DIAGNOSING MONKEYPOX

  • They can be well diagnosed as per the symptoms. Swelling of lymph nodes is the peculiar sign for monkeypox.
  • Sample from the secretions if any are collected and transported to the laboratory for testing so as proper diagnosis can be done.

TREATMENT FOR MONKEYPOX

According to the symptoms, the patient is prescribed medication. Patients should be offered with fluids and food to maintain required nutritional status.

Antiviral agent called as tecovirimat was developed for smallpox but is licensed to be used in monkeypox as well. Vaccination for smallpox was an option in the mid 90’s but now the vaccination has ceased.

PREVENTION FROM MONKEYPOX

Monkeypox can be prevented in the same way other conditions are prevented and that is by raising awareness. People should be taught about the risk factors and prevention measures as well. One more thing people should be told about is how they can help others without getting infected.

So, after going through all this information what we have collected is:

  • Monkeypox is definitely not the next pandemic
  • It's a small brother of smallpox
  • Severity depends on ones immunity
  • It can spread from a house pet to owner and to from that to other members of family
  • In upcoming time, one may hear about the new vaccination developed for Monkeypox
  • In 2022, the monkeypox cases will be noticed in many parts of the world, even in Delhi India as well.

Possible modes of transmission have to be investigated so as to safeguard public health.

AYURVEDIC OVERVIEW OF MONKEYPOX

  • The theory according to Ayurveda starts from the low vayadhishamatva that is immunity. The deficiencies in the immune system are the result of lifestyle mistakes we generally make.
  • If asked how many of you eat to build a strong immunity then only one out of 10 will answer “I do”. The maximum population eats to fulfil their cravings and fill their empty stomach.
  • Low immunity or vayadhishamatva makes your body prone to be attacked by the viruses or bacterias or fungi etc. In ayurveda all of these microorganisms are called as agantuja karana for onset of any disease.
  • When these agantuka karan enter the body they cause dosha vitiation especially of pitta dosha or of thermal energy in case of monkeypox. This aggravated pitta results in the various symptoms observed in this condition. That is the basic pathology followed, according to Ayurveda and based on this theory treatment of the condition is decided.
  • As a line of treatment many formulations prepared with effective herbs are guided to the patients.  The herbs like haldi, daruhaldi, sonth, pippali, Giloy, murva, nagarmotha, pitta papada etc. has great effect in pacification of pitta dosha and enhances immunity simultaneously.
