Depression is a mental disorder which affects our mental, social and physical well being with behavioral changes. Depression makes our lives miserable. It interferes with a person’s daily life. It can affect people of all ages, rich, poor, men, women, adolescents, teens everyone.

In Ayurveda, depression is included in "MANAS VIKAR". Mann is main source to complete or to do any activity on daily basis. Our thoughts whether negative or positive, our imagination, dreams in all these Mann is involved and plays a major role. Mind (brain) and heart are two organs involved while doing any work and Mann is the chain between these too. Our every negative thought act as catalyst , it overpower our mind with the involvement of Mann and our mind start adding these in one corner, which later becomes our memories whether bad memories or good memories and these memories lead us on the way to depression.

  • Sharir dosha:- Vata increases with some Pitta and decreases Kapha
  • Manas dosha:- Rajas and tamas

In Ayurveda we have a "Vish" type called "DUSHIVISH". DUSHI VISH is a type of poison which remains in our body in very low quantity and it increases in favourable condition and starts showing symptoms, the same thing happens in depression. Depression is a slow poison, it kills the person slowly. It takes months to years to diagnose depression.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Paresthesia with Herbal Remedies

Abnormal feeling of pins and needles in the skin, crawling, itching without any reason, numbness is termed as Paresthesia. This sensation can be felt in various parts of the body like fingers, toes, hands or feet. This is article is all about Paresthesia, it causes, signs and symptoms, diagnosis and herbal treatment. Knowing disease might help you catch it early and prevent further damage to the body.

Paresthesia has been experienced by everyone at some point of time and there’s nothing wrong if it is short term and do not occur too often. Most commonly this feeling of pins and needles is felt by the people when their hands or foot fall asleep. This particular part may fall asleep due to sitting crossed legs for long time or sleeping with arm folded under the head which result in exertion of pressure on that particular nerve for long time unknowingly. However it gets back to normal after changing position and when nerve is free of pressure. This is temporary and non-pathological paresthesia and gets resolved without any treatment. However the pathological paresthesia is the one when this sensation persists for longer duration and do reoccur frequently and is due to certain underlying disorder.

Acute paresthesia is without any medical disorder while the chronic paresthesia is caused due to certain medical reason lying behind. Usually the cause is damage of the nerve due to certain trauma or presence of neurological disorder. Diseases affecting the central nervous system like transient ischemic attack, stroke, transverse myelitis, multiple sclerosis or encephalitis can be the reason for paresthesia.

Paresthesia in itself is a symptoms of particular disease conditions. However paresthesia usually affects certain parts of the body like hands, arms, legs and feet and it can be of two types acute or chronic. However the symptoms of paresthesia are:

  • Tingling
  • Itching
  • Something crawling under or on the skin
  • Numbness
  • Weakness
  • Cold
  • Burning
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Foot drop
  • Frequent falling asleep of foot or hand
  • Stabbing pain
  • Difficulty in walking (when occur in legs and feet)

Short term or acute paresthesia is usually a result of small period of bad blood circulation or too much pressure on certain nerve. However the long term or chronic paresthesia is caused due to the damage to the particular nerve of that area. Nerve damage is of two types, i.e. Radiculopathy and neuropathy.

  1. Radiculopathy is defined as the condition in which roots of the nerves are irritated, compressed or inflamed due to herniation of the disc that presses on nerve, narrow canal of spinal cord through which nerve is passed to extremities or formation of an abnormal mass compressing the nerve.
  2. Neuropathy is caused due to damage to the nerve chronically, usually due to high blood sugar. It can occur due to several other causes like kidney disease, liver disease, trauma or injury, stroke, certain autoimmune diseases, tumor of brain or around the nerves, certain medications etc.

Usually the paresthesia is diagnosed based on the clinical history of the patient, physical examination and lab tests. Presence of any of the underlying causes mentioned directs the doctor to go for further examination and tests which eventually leads to confirmation of the disorder. Your doctor can recommend tests like MRI, X ray and CT scans.

Treatment of paresthesia depends upon the underlying cause. It confirmation and treatment may ease the paresthesia as well. If paresthesia is occurring due to certain lifestyle problem like repetitive movement injury than avoiding it or physical therapy for it can help out. Treatment is completely based on the underlying cause and even some sort of nerve damage are considered to be irreversible.

Chronic and complex conditions like Paresthesia can be very well treated and managed by the Ayurvedic medicines as nature has given us many herbs that have rejuvenating effects on nerves. In Ayurveda herbal medicines are prepared by herbs that help in treating the underlying cause naturally and eventually rooting out the Paresthesia as well.

Have A Peaceful And Happy Life With Ayurveda

In today’s era and traditions going on, it’s so easy to say, we are busy. One of the characteristics of modern life is that we are moving at an ever-increasing rate. However, our temptation to caught up in this frantic life of everyday rush has also catabolized our peace and happiness; and it may be begging the question-are we metabolizing and digesting our emotions of everyday life adequately? The answer is NO. To gain inner happiness and peace, Ayurveda offers a unique system of treatment based upon life style adjustments, individualized dietary programmes, powerful herbal formulas and spiritual focus of yoga and meditation.

The major question which strikes on mind is- what is happiness and peace? As said by ‘Mother Teresa’-

Happiness is the inner transitory period of life which we experience only when something interesting happens in life. It is nothing but a feeling of satisfaction which is different for different people. Our happiness can be permanent if we find inner peace. By leaving all the desires, you can achieve peace because it is the quietness inside you. Peace is accepting the life as it is and is the state of positivity. The only and foremost way to find peace and happiness is to maintain positive thoughts.

Peaceful And Happy Life with Ayurveda

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, many of us suffer from a loss of meaning, direction, vitality, mission, purpose, identity and genuine connection- it has been considered as simple ordinary thing which is a deep unhappiness. I call this pandemic of unhappiness and uncertainty in life as ‘silver lining’ and believe that it blinds us from seeing the potential for joy and wholeness in ordinary life.

As the covid-19 pandemic wreaks havoc across the globe, one of its major victims is global economy. In India, small businesses with weak revenues are struggling with cash flows while daily-wage earners are starting to see eventheir meagre income impacted by the shutdowns. Lockdown pushes students coaching institutes into limbo. Specific sectors like entertainment, tourism and aviation are starting to blur. Over time, it becomes easier to accept a lack of meaning in our lives as normal.

Seeking happiness in the worldly material things do not seem to work out. At some point, it becomes clear that lasting happiness cannot be realized in any world, body or mind, in any experience, situation or relationship. Whatever is dependent on a cause is temporary and cannot last and we should remember the words of ‘Swami Vivekananda’ in ‘Raja Yoga’-

Due to job loss or uncertainty in life, many people are suffering from depression, insomnia, anxiety, stress which ultimately leads to heart related ailments and it can pose a serious threat to the person’s life. But always remember that happiest people on earth don’t have best of everything, but they make best of everything they have. Most of the life events make us happy for short time, so happiness is not the final destination, peace makes us more happy, conscious and above.

Now the major question- how to deal with it? The ancient teachings of Ayurveda tells in-depth about the profound relationship of the mind’s influence upon the body. It makes us aware of our place in the world of nature through the movement of time.

Ayurveda includes an awareness of pure internal nature through our thoughts and emotions. It teaches us how to harmonize ourselves with sunrise and sunset, the seasons of the year and the stages of life from birth to death. It shows us how to adapt to environmental forces of heat and cold, dampness and dryness and clear and cloudy days. Along with its natural rhythm, Ayurveda shows the right diet for the physical body, right breathing for the panic body, the right impression for mind, harmonious emotions for the heart and the right thoughts for our higher intelligence. We must remember that being happy is all about fulfilling your desires and it may not give you inner peace.

Ayurvedic Treatment of Amlapitta / Parinaam Shula (Acid Peptic Disease)

In today’s life we all are so busy in our work and leading a very stressful life with unwholesome dietary habits, which is a biggest cause for developing various disorders related to various systems in our body and especially their origin starts from our gut. One among these diseases is Acid Peptic Diseases (APD), these are quite common nowadays. In this article, we are going to discuss in detail about the causes of this disease, pathogenesis, and its treatment aspect by following the Principles of Ayurveda with natural herbs.

Acid-Peptic diseases are categorized under Amlapitta and Parinaamashula as per Ayurvedic classics. These diseases affect the digestion of the individual and basically occur due to irregular diet and lifestyle and due to our weak digestive fire (Mandagni). Incidence ratio of such diseases is quite high in the Pitta prakruti people and those who are leading a sedentary lifestyle. These diseases will develop some minor to severe symptoms like a simple indigestion to severe ulcers in the mucosal layers of the internal digestive tract.

Acid Peptic Disease

There are lots of causes that develop this condition. So, before starting a treatment always try to find out the exact cause because merely by avoiding the cause we can help in treating the disease and also avoid the chances of their complications. And these causes can be ruled out with proper interrogation with patients. Let’s discuss them:

  • Are patients indulging more in foodstuffs that are hot in nature (ushna), cause burning sensation (vidahi), sharp (tikshna) and irritate the inner mucosa (kshobhak). And often consumption of junk foods leads to such issues.
  • Is there any prolonged history of stress and strains (chinta) and Depression (manoavsaad)?
  • Any history of diseases such as Mandagni related issues (Low digestive power), Vibandha (Constipation), grahani (Irritable bowel syndrome) or H.Pylori.
  • Any family history of such issues because these diseases are also quite common in generations.
  • Extra production of HCL in the body.
  • Prolonged use of medicines which have sharp and hot potency.

During these diseases the pathology that occurs is as follow:

  • Increased production of HCL (Hydrochloric acid) in the stomach.
  • Reduction in the Mucosa that is nothing but depleted Kledak Kapha.
  • Alters the production of gastric juices.
  • Produces inflammation in the inner layers of the GI tract.
  • Hampers the normal peristalsis thus, food stays for a long time in the stomach and causes various signs and symptoms.
  • Lastly, can erode the layers and causes ulcers in the tract.

After knowing the proper cause of the disease we can aspect the dosha dushya vitiation. Here, in this disease Tridoshas are involved. Pitta aggravates the production of HCL in the stomach, Depleted Kapha will lead to affect the mucosal layer and develop ulcers, and Vata hampers the peristalsis. These doshas affect Rasa, Rakta, and Mamsa dhatus and develop Amlapitta / Parinaam shula.

The common signs and symptoms of these disease are mentioned below:

  • Indigestion
  • Bloating
  • Burning sensation in the stomach
  • Belching
  • Acidity
  • Excessive flatus
  • Constipation even sometimes develops diarrhea
  • Heartburn
  • Heaviness in the chest
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Headache
  • Ulcers in the digestive tract
  • Discoloration of feces

The treatment of Acid Peptic diseases should be done on the basis of etio-pathogenesis. And treating the root cause is only a way to get rid of such health issues. Let’s go through the treatment offered by Planet Ayurveda in these diseases which is totally based on herbal and calcium compounds because they are efficient enough in managing them.

  • Try to manage the HCl production – As the production of HCL is increased in these disorders, we need to reduce them with the help of herbs and calcium compounds such as Guduchi, Prawal, Mukta, etc. For this, Planet Ayurveda has formulated Heartburn capsules. These capsules normalize the production of HCL.
  • Corrects the depleted Kapha – We need to promote the Kledak Kapha in the body, so the medicines that are required are Amalaki, Yashtimadhu, Guduchi, etc. By keeping these things in mind we have prepared Amalaki Rasayan capsules. These are helpful in increasing the Kapha dosha in the GI tract.
  • Avoid stasis of food in stomach – Here, we need to increase the peristalsis of gastric so that food doesn’t stay for a prolonged time in the stomach and gets digested well. In such cases we need some deepana -pachana herbs like Jeeraka, Haritaki, Dhaniya, Saunf, etc. And we developed Digestion Support Capsules. That helps in digesting the food well and even restores the normal peristalsis. Even Digesto Plan Syrup is prepared for this purpose. These capsules are even helpful in eliminating the growth of bacteria like H. Pylori from the colon.
  • Heals up the ulcers – For this condition we need some medicines that have tendency to heal the eroded tissues such as Vrana ropak properties. In our clinical trials we found that Arjuna is effective in this condition and heals the ulcers at a rapid pace and we are using Arjuna Capsules.

Here we talked about how we can treat the root cause but sometimes the symptoms are so severe and we need to take certain measures to counter the symptom. Thus we have also formulated some formulations to counter the symptoms directly, such as:

  • Curbs Acidity as well as bloating – In case of hyperacidity we need to neutralize it with the herbs like Patola, Pitta papda, Shatavari, Kumari, etc. Hence we came up with Acido Plan Syrup that contains various herbs that can neutralize the acidity.
  • Clears the passage – During this condition individual are unable to evacuate the motion clearly or sometimes motion is not well formed or sometimes frequency is increased, in these cases we are advising Vara churna, Kabaj Mukti Tablets, Motion Stop, Atisaran Mukti Capsules and Belgiri Churna, that depending upon the condition of the patient.
  • Ease the air – In case of excessive gas production we need to take the help of herbs like Ajmoda, Shatpushpa, Yavani, etc. and we prepared Gasoplan Capsules for this reason.

Even we are taking the help of some classical formulation to tackle this condition and we are using medicines such as Prawal Panchamrit, Sutshekhar Ras, Kamdudha Ras, Mahashankha Vati, etc.

These diseases are aroused due to vitiated Digestive fire in our body because of our improper diet and lifestyle. So always try to treat them from the root. The best way of treating them is with herbs and calcium compounds which are naturally present in our surroundings and the results will last long.

Blood vascular system plays a crucial role in maintaining functions of whole organs in a proper manner. If our cells are unable to get oxygen and proper nutrients which are required to work then they all will necrose or damage. So, today, we are going to discuss a disease which pertains to blood vessels i.e. Granulomatosis with polyangiitis. This blood vascular disease can be life threatening because majorly it affects the vessels of vital organs. In this article, we are going to discuss the disease in detail like its presentation, symptoms, and a perfect treatment as per Ayurveda to overcome this disease.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis is a rare inflammatory disorder of blood vessels in which both arteries and veins are involved. This inflammation will reduce the blood flow of the organs in our body. It can affect any organ such as nose, throat, lungs, kidneys, ears, etc. This hampered blood supply will cause damage to the particular organ functionally as well as structurally. In this disease vasculitis (the inflammation of blood vessels) of small and medium vessels takes place and forms granulomas (a structure formed due to collection of macrophages) and further develops necrosis of the tissues.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis

In earlier times, granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is known with the name Wegener’s granulomatosis (WG). This is a systemic disorder but most commonly affects the respiratory tract but the signs and symptoms of this disease vary a lot due to involvement of the blood vessels of a particular area. As this disease involves the vital organ can be a life threatening condition.

This disease can occur in all age groups but the incidence ratio of this disease is high in the middle age group and affects equally the males and females.

The etiology of this disease is still not clear but some causative factors of this disease are mentioned below:

  • Bacterial and viral infections are very common in this disease.
  • It also comes under autoimmune diseases hence the own immune cells start destructing the blood vessels and develop granulomas.
  • Inheritance – This disease can run in generations.

As said earlier, this disease can affects the blood vessels of any organs so the signs and symptoms also varies but some common ones are:

  • Weight loss
  • Recurrent throat infections
  • Stuffy nose, Rhinitis and sinusitis
  • Difficulty in deep breathing or shortness of breath
  • Recurrent fever
  • Persistent cough usually with phlegm
  • Sometimes coughing of blood
  • Night sweats
  • Reduced appetite
  • Fatigue
  • But if it affects the kidney, ears, eyes, skin, etc then it will develop symptoms related to them.

This condition is unable to be diagnosed on the basis of clinical signs and symptoms but needs thorough investigations. The tests that are required to rule out this disease are as follows:

  • Blood investigations
  • Test for ANCAs (Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies)
  • Chest X – rays
  • CT scan
  • Even biopsy can be recommended.

As per modern system of medicines corticosteroids, NSAIDs, antibiotics, immunosuppressants, etc used to treat this. But they develop some adverse effects. Herbal Remedies for MOG Antibody Disease

MOG Antibody Disease is an autoimmune neurological disorder which is characterized by the inflammation of the optic nerves and/or the inflammation of a section of the spinal cord and the brain. In this condition, the immune dysfunction targets the Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein (MOG) which is a protein located on the outermost myelin sheaths of the nerve cells. The condition can be effectively managed in a natural manner, with the help of some beneficial herbal products available from Planet Ayurveda herbal manufacturing company.

MOG Antibody Disease is an idiopathic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, which includes the brain, optic nerves and spinal cord. It is a neuro-inflammatory condition associated with an atypical immune system response to the MOG (Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein).

MOG Antibody Disease

In this condition, the antibodies – proteins that circulate in the blood stream and are a part of the body’s immune system – target the MOG which is found on the outer membrane of the ‘Myelin’ fatty protein that insulates and protects the nerve cells, and enables speedy transmission of messages from the brain to the different parts of the body. The antibodies to MOG damage the myelin sheath, and hamper the message-transmission process along the nerve. Due to the damage to the myelin sheath (demyelination), patients suffering from MOG Antibody Disease can experience neurological symptoms (related to the brain and the nervous system).

In most cases, MOG Antibody Disease is linked to Optic Neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerves), Transverse Myelitis (inflammation of a portion of the spinal cord), and/or Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (inflammatory condition that affects the brain). The course of the disease can be monophasic (one-time occurrence) or relapsing.

MOG Antibody Disease can affect individuals of all ages. However, the disease usually starts affecting individuals during the early- to mid-30s. The risk of developing the disease is slightly higher for women as compared to men.

The exact cause behind the occurrence of MOG Antibody Disease is not known. Nonetheless, it is apparent that the disease is linked to an abnormal immune system response to MOG protein and, thus, affects the central nervous system. It is also believed that disorders associated with MOG are typically non-familial disorders.

The symptoms of MOG Antibody Disease can range between mild and severe, depending on the extent of demyelination and the parts of the brain affected by the condition.

Based on the inflammation of the optic nerves, the spinal cord or the brain, some of the symptoms of MOG Antibody Disease are:

  • Blurred vision
  • Pain while moving the eyes
  • Loss of color vision
  • Complete vision loss (in rare cases)
  • Pain in the back
  • Weakness in the legs
  • Weakness in the arms
  • Bladder/bowel problems
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Unsteadiness
  • Lethargy or extreme tiredness

The treatment of MOG Antibody Disease is aimed at controlling the recurrence of the disease or preventing its relapse in future. The common treatment options for the disease include oral steroids, oral immunosuppressants, Plasma exchange, intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIGs), and Intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP).

Ayurvedic Way of Effective Fasting for Different Body Types (Prakritis)

Ayurveda, a science of life that was established several years ago, is a potent pathy which was in practice in India but with time, it spread Worldwide due to its efficient ways of treating the diseases from its root. This science has given the ways of leading a normal healthy life of an individual as well, which is very clear in its Aim (Aim of Ayurveda) –“ स्वस्थस्य स्वास्थ्य रक्षणं आतुरस्य विकार प्रशमनं च ”. In other words, it clears that it helps to protect the health of a healthy person and treat the diseased one. That’s why this holistic approach to mankind is the reason where people tried to chase this treasure from our ancient Sages and Vaidyas.

In Ayurveda, there are 3 approaches to treat any disease or to stay healthy, they are – Aahar (Diet), Vihaar (Lifestyle) and Aaushadi’s (Medicines). These three are the main sources or ways which can help to treat us. And one of the methods to attain this is Langhana Therapy (Fasting). Fasting is a technique of refrain from the foods for a stipulated time. It plays its key role in managing the digestive health and curbs the morbid materials from our body. It can of any type – a whole day fasting or intermittent fasting. Fasting can be practiced for particular hours of the day, we can abstain from some particular food stuffs, can skip all the foods and just on water for some duration and so on. And there is a great importance given to langhana in Ayurveda – “ लंघनं परम् औषधं ” langhana is considered as the best medicine because of its importance, let's discuss it.

In our daily routine, we consume so many processed things and we do overfeeding that is not good for our body and they develop various toxins inside the body. These toxins will give rise to various health issues. So, to increase our digestive fire, maintain the normal metabolism and detoxify the body and fto keep the diseases at bay, we should do fasting. It will help to maintain the healthy functioning of our body.

But as per Ayurveda, Everyone has a particular constitution i.e. Prakruti. But it will be dominated by Vata dosha, Pitta dosha and Kapha dosha. So, Fasting for a period of time also varies from Prakruti to Prakruti i.e. it depends upon particular dosha.

Even fasting is a ritual practice in most of the cultures. Let’s go for particular Dosha dominant prakruti i.e. Vata Prakruti, pitta Prakruti and Kapha Prakruti.

Kapha dosha is composed of Earth and Water elements. This represents the characteristic of an individual like they are strought, well built, sluggish movements and having a strong immunity. So, these prakruti people have more Meda Dhatu (0adipose tissue) and fasting helps to curb it. So fasting is a great choice for this prakruti as fasting brings lightness in their body. These people can fast for the whole day, can stay hydrated with just water, can skip the meals for 3 days or can do fasting once in a week, regularly. That will not hamper and cause any kind of side effect on their body. It will help to bring balance in all the doshas especially Kapha and Vata dosha. Fasting will help to increase their digestive fire hence accelerates their metabolism. This will be a good choice for kaphaj prakruti people.

Pitta dosha is composed of fire and water elements. This represents the characteristic of an individual like they are more angry, with moderate body built and moderate immunity. But, these prakruti have a good digestive fire so they need to do the fasting moderately or can do intermittent fasting. They should not skip the complete meals because it will affect their body. Or they can do fasting occasionally. They can consume fruits, juices or have khichadi or light satvik aahar meanwhile. Because they already have a strong Agni, and fasting increases our appetite and it will curb the normal dhatus in their body. They can do this once in 15 days.

Vata dosha is composed of air and space elements. This represents the characteristic of an individual like they are very lean with less immunity but they are very active. These prakruti people have irregular digestion, sometimes they can digest well and sometimes they feel like bloated. Fasting helps to aggravate Vata and Pitta dosha in our body hence vata prakruti individual’s should not skip the meals. For maintaining health, they can just skip one of the meals of the day or can fast once in a month, Or can do intermittent fasting with light meals, skipping some particular food for stipulated time, or can just stay on khichadi and fruits for the whole day. Vata prakruti people should not fast for a long time because it will further aggravate vata dosha in their body so instead of giving benefits it will raise various health issues. Once in a month they should do this fasting to detox their body.

  • For Kapha Prakruti - Kapha prakruti people can even drink lukewarm water on the day of fasting. You can curb fats for some days.
  • For Pitta Prakruti - Can stay on some fruits and salads for some days.
  • For Vata Prakruti - You can switch to particular light foods for duration along with fruits.

But everyone after fasting should not start immediately the normal and heavy meals. Rather these should gradually be added in our daily routine.

With fasting we can achieve the following things:

  • Feeling of lightness
  • Become active and alert
  • A good digestion
  • Detoxification of our body
  • A fast metabolism
  • Maintain body shape and weight
  • Increases the body’s immunity
  • Enhances the higher mental functions
  • There will be a natural glow and a positive energy in our body

If you have poor digestion and have symptoms like indigestion, coated tongue, constipation, bloating, burping and heaviness in the body. Then it’s a time to detox the body by eliminating the morbid materials and you must revitalize your whole body.

Fasting, a healthy procedure to detoxify yourself that boosts the function of our body and clears the channels and also it will be a great choice and a simple way to lead a normal healthy life without diseases.

This disease occurs due to defects of the valves of veins. However there are various other factors which are responsible for this. So, in this article we are going to discuss about the cause, symptoms and its treatment with safe herbal medications.

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a condition when the deoxygenated blood from the veins of legs is unable to return back to the heart due to improper work by the valves present in the veins. This makes the blood stagnant in the lower limbs and makes the veins protruded, swollen and develop inability to contract the calf muscles hence hampers the routine works.

Chronic Venous Insufficiency

The incidence ratio is quite high in the United States and more frequently occurs in the people with the age above 50's. Even the incidence ratio is quite high in those who are standing for prolonged duration and females are more affected than males.

As per Ayurveda, this condition can be correlated as Siraj granthi. Where the Siras are called as Veins and they get enlarged and tortuous so that they are unable to return the deoxygenated blood back to the heart. This is a Pitta pradhana tridoshaj vyadhi where Pitta is the main vitiated factor that further accompanies the Vata and Kapha dosha.

The most common causes of this disease are as follows but then also sometimes the causes of occurrence are unable to rule out.

  • The prime cause of the disease is any kind of damage to the valves. These valves are responsible to return and maintain the black flow of blood in the veins.
  • It is very common in diseases like DVT (Deep Venous thrombosis) where due to blood clot the blood stasis occurs in the lower limbs. That’s why it is also considered a Post thrombotic syndrome which occurred as a result of DVT.
  • Weakened veins.
  • Elevated blood pressure.
  • Any defect related to muscles, especially any disease which reduces the mobility or functions of muscles.
  • Hereditary factors – Family history of this disease is also a cause.
  • Diet factors – Excessive intake of abhishyandi foods which obstructs the channels.
  • Congenital malformations.

  • Obesity
  • Pregnancy
  • Drinking
  • Smoking
  • Old Age
  • Occupation especially which are related to long standing works.

This disease can be presented with the following sign and symptoms:

Swelling, it usually increases after long standing.

  • Prominent veins or varicose veins as they are filled with blood.
  • Itching on the lower limbs.
  • Tiredness, huge pain on touch.
  • Weakness.
  • Inability to move.
  • Cramps in the legs.
  • Tightness or rigidity in lower legs.
  • Heaviness in the lower limbs.
  • Numbness in the lower limbs

To evaluate CVI complete check up is required to rule out the disease as well as cause. Usually, you are asked for

  • Venogram
  • Duplex ultrasound
  • CT Venography
  • Capillaroscopy
  • Biopsy
  • Hematological investigations

As per Modern science, treatment of this disease can be done by giving Anticoagulants, analgesics, diuretics and medicines to improve blood flow along with compression with stockings, which most of the time may not be fruitful for most of the individuals and are not long lasting.
