Herbal Remedies for Viral Hepatitis - Types, Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis & Ayurvedic Treatment

VIRAL HEPATITIS

Liver is considered as largest organ in human body. Viral Hepatitis is becoming very common. Viral hepatitis means inflammation of liver due to viral infections in body. This infection causes damage of liver cells in the liver. Hepatitis virus multiply in liver cells. More common hepatitis viruses are A, B and C. Hepatitis A & E occur by indigestion of contaminated water or food. Hepatitis B, C & D take place due to infected blood.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF HEPATITIS VIRUS WITH THEIR SYMPTOMS ARE MENTIONED BELOW

1. Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A virus occur when a person eats infected food or drink contaminated water. This virus confers immunity of an individual. In Hepatitis A virus people get easily recovered. Incubation period of hepatitis A virus is 28 days. It also occur when a person makes sexual contact with infected HAV person.

Signs and Symptoms:-

  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Jaundice
  • Dark urine
  • Jaundice
  • Anorexia
  • Rash
  • Hepatomegaly

2. Hepatitis B

It is considered as sexually transmitted disease. This virus spreads by making contact with infected blood fluids, infected blood or infected semen, unsterilized needles, sharing personal items like toothbrush or razor. Incubation period of hepatitis B virus is approximately 75 days. As this virus progresses, the liver of patient becomes tender and jaundice take place. In this condition, liver becomes inflamed, liver enzymes gets elevated and patient feels pain.

Signs & Symptoms:-

  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Arthritis
  • Urticarial rash
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

3. Hepatitis C

This hepatitis occurs when a normal person gets direct contact with diseased one. Hepatitis C virus is cause for it. In this case liver get swelled and becomes damaged. Incubation period of this disease is 15 to 150 days. About 20% of people with Hepatitis C get liver cirrhosis.

Signs and Symptoms:-

People with this disease face same sign and symptoms of Hepatitis B.

Diagnosis:-

People facing this problem should go for blood test, liver biopsy and fibro scan.

4. Hepatitis D

The persons who are infected with Hepatitis B virus become infected with Hepatitis D. This hepatitis is caused by virus HDV (Hepatitis D virus). Liver is totally swelled up in this case. Hepatitis D occurs due to infected blood, infected needles and unprotected sex. Incubation period of hepatitis D virus is 35 days. It's a very rare type of hepatitis.

Signs and Symptoms:-

Signs and symptoms are same as hepatitis B but the condition gets worst.

5. Hepatitis E

Incubation period of this virus is an average 45 days. In this case liver swells but not for long term. Infection is possible by drinking infected water contaminated by faeces or through anal- oral sex.

CAUSES OF VIRAL HEPATITIS

There are many causes for hepatitis that are mentioned in detail below:

  • Infection occurs from viruses like hepatitis A, B & C, bacteria or parasites.
  • Sometimes liver get damage due to excessive intake of alcohol or other poisons.
  • In some cases immune cells attack liver and cause autoimmune hepatitis.
  • Medications like acetaminophen is one of the reason for liver damage.
  • Liver disorder also takes place by inherited disorder like cystic fibrosis.

Diagnosis of Viral Hepatitis

There are several ways to detect viral hepatitis including:

  • Liver function tests
  • Liver biopsy
  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Autoimmune blood markers
  • For hepatitis A virus detection of immunoglobulin M (IgM) is needed.
  • For hepatitis B virus detection of IgM antigen is needed. Hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg) is required for detecting acute infection. HbsAg is required for finding acute infections.

1. Yakritplihantak Churna

As the name suggests "Yakrit" means liver and "Pliha" means spleen. This churna contains best herbs that cure liver disorders and spleen disorders easily. Use of this churna regenerates liver cells and prevents liver failure. This is a natural herbal remedy for fatty liver, jaundice, liver damage due to infections, toxins and alcohol. Consumption of churna gives effective results on any type of viral hepatitis. Liver enlargement and inflammation are cured with use of this churna. Herbs used for preparation of Yakritplihantak churna are Bhumi amla (Phyllanthus Niruri), Katuki (Picrorhiza kurrao), Makoy (Solanum indicum), Punarnava (Boerrhavia diffusa), Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata), Kaasni (Cichorium intybus), Bhringraj (Eclipta alba) and Sharpunkha (Tephrosia prupurea).
