Herbal Remedies for Snoring - Causes & Symptoms

Don’t take snoring lightly as its ignorance converts it into a serious disease. Snoring is a very common problem today due to disturbed lifestyle. Often loud, hoarse or harsh noises are performed by people suffering with snoring problem. It is considered as a sleep centric disorder that cause difficulty in flow of air while breathing. While snoring vibration of respiratory organs like uvula and soft palate take place. For some people snoring is considered as chronic problem. Conditions due to which a person snores are blocked nasal cavity, mispositioned jaw, enlarged tonsils, weakness in throat, fat around throat and use of alcohol that relaxes throat muscles etc.

Snoring in some cases leads to obstructive sleep apnea. In this problem breathing gets disturbed for a short period of time when a person sleeps. Men are more prone to snoring as compared to women.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF SNORING?

There are various reasons for snoring that are mentioned below:

  • Obesity: Obese or overweight people have extra throat tissues that leads to snoring.
  • Genetic factors: Sometimes genetic factors are also the cause for snoring with extra throat tissue, large adenoids, enlarged tonsils, long uvula or long soft palate.
  • Allergies: In some people allergies from dust or any other cause makes one to snore. It leads to congestion of throat.
  • Nasal problems: Chronic nasal congestion leads to snoring.
  • Sleep position: Sleeping on back with gravity’s effect on the throat, narrows the airways that causes snoring.
  • Deprivation in Sleep pattern: Not having enough sleep leads to throat relaxation that can lead to snoring.
  • Alcohol, smoking: Intake of alcohol and prolonged smoking relaxes throat and tongue muscles.
  • Certain drugs and medications: Prolonged intake of medications causes relaxation of throat and tongue muscles that results in snoring.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF SNORING?

  • Dry mouth or sore throat
  • Headache at morning time
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Irritability, depression or moodiness
  • Frequent urination during night time
  • Choking while sleep time

PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

1. Arogyavardini Vati

As the name suggests "Arogya" means good health and "Vardhini" means improve. Hence this vati maintains overall health of an individual. Arogyavardini vati balances all three doshas vata, pitta and kapha in body. This herbal formulation possesses herbo-mineral ingredients like shudh parad (Purified mercury), shudh gandhak (Purified sulphur), Lauh bhasma (Calcined iron), abharak bhasm (Mica), tamra bhasma (Purified copper), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Vibhitaki (Terminalia belerica), Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Shuddh Shilajatu (Asphaltum), Shuddh Guggul (Commiphora mukul), Chitrak mool (Plumbago zeylanica) and Katuka (Picorrhiza kurro).

  • Shuddh Shilajit (Asphaltum): It has anti-oxidant properties that delays process of ageing.
  • Amalaki (Emblica officinalis): This herb has anti-bacterial, stomachic, carminative, hypotensive and astringent action. It acts on associated symptoms snoring disease.
  • Haritaki (Terminalia chebula): The herb is good for digestion, detoxification, obesity and many other therapeutic values. It helps to improve energy, stamina, intelligence, improves memory and clears blockages. Haritaki balances all three doshas in body.
  • Vibhitaki (Terminalia belerica): It is consider as best herb for cold and cough problem, improves immunity, headache and sore throat problem associated with snoring disease.
  • Chitrak mool (Plumbago zeylanica): This herb shows astringent and carminative properties. It helps to balance vata and kapha dosha in body. Chitrak herb contains hitranone, droserone, elliptinone, maritone, plumbagicacid, zeylalone and zeylinone etc. Chitrak mool shows effective results in symptoms associated with snoring disease.
  • Guggul (Commiphora mukul): It promotes detoxification and rejuvenation of body. Guggul provides healthy immune system and removes excess fat.

Symptoms associated with snoring are cured with it.

Recommended Dosage: Two tablets thrice daily with lukewarm water after meals.

2. Tulsi Capsules

These capsule contains standardized extract of Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum). It is a very common herb use for its therapeutic values. Tulsi is used from ancient time for preparation of medicines. The herb provides effective result in auto immune disorders, allergies, chronic rhinitis and blocked throat conditions. Snoring problem is easily managed with these capsules. It boosts up the immune system in body. Tulsi herb contains ursolic acid that contains anti-allergic properties. These capsule provides effective result in snoring problem.

Recommended Dosage: One capsule twice daily with plain water after meals.

3. Fenugreek Capsules

Pure extract of herb fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is used. This common herb provides effective result in many diseases. Snoring problem is completely cured with use of capsules. These capsule balances three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) in body. It helps to maintain symptoms associated with snoring disease. The herb fenugreek are rich in vitamins like thiamine, niacin, folic acid, vitamin A, B6, C and minerals like calcium, potassium, copper, zinc, magnesium and manganese etc. Fenugreek capsule prevents weakness, fatigue, frequent urination, excessive thirst and obesity.

Recommended Dosage: One capsule twice daily with plain water or milk after meals.

4. Nirgundi Oil

Nirgundi oil is prepared form leaves of herb Nirgundi (Vitex negundo). This herb contains components like phenol, dulcitol, camphene, orientin, anguside eurostoside, aucubin and B-sitosterol etc. Nirgundi herb anti-histamine property provides effective results in snoring. This oil is prepared with sesame seed oil. It has bitter, astringent taste, hot potency and pungent properties. Use of this oil balances vata and kapha doshas in body. Nirgundi oil helps in reducing pain, inflammation and congestion. It helps in overcoming anger, concentrating difficulty, aggression, irritability, depression, moodiness and sore throat problem.

Recommended Dosage: Put two drops of Nirgundi oil in both nostrils twice a day.
