Ayurvedic treatment of Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is a medical condition where thyroid gland secretes an excessive amount of thyroid hormone thyroxine more than our body needs. In other words, the thyroid gland is in an overactive condition.

Thyroid hormones control most metabolic processes in the body. But in hyperthyroidism, the processes of the body hasten up and the person may experience nervousness, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, hand tremor, excessive sweating, weight loss and sleep problems among other symptoms. An extreme version of hyperthyroidism that may lead to severe or life-threatening symptoms is known as Thyrotoxicosis.

What could be the Causes of Hyperthyroidism?

The main reason of Hyperthyroidism is over production and over secretion of the thyroxine hormone which is common in about 70% of the population.

Reasons for Hyperthyroidism are various diseases and conditions

  • Graves' disease is auto immune in nature is one of common cause of Hyperthyroidism where antibodies in the blood stimulate the thyroid to grow and secrete excessive amounts of thyroid hormone.
  • Thyroiditis is inflammation of the thyroid because of infections, certain medicines, or after pregnancy.
  • Multinodular goiter, where nodules or lumps in the thyroid gland makes thyroid to produce excessive amounts of thyroid hormones.
  • Excessive intake of Iodine via food or medicines.

Ayurveda explains reasons for Hyperthyroidism:

Ayurvedic has explained occurrence of Hyperthyroidism due to improper digestion of food that makes the minute channels in the body to get clogged causing an imbalance in the function of the thyroid gland. When these doshas get vitiated disturbing the balance of vata and pitta doshas which leads to overstimulation of the gastric fire which causes excessive hunger and results in Hyperthyroidism.

What can be the Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism?

Symptoms are mainly due to hyper metabolism of the body. Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism and their severity vary according to the duration and excess amount of thyroid hormone produced with add on factor of the age of the individual.

Signs and Symptoms

Thyroid enlargement expressed as goiter or nodule, a kind of lump seen in front of the neck.

  • Feeling of Nervousness, Anxiety and Irritability.
  • Loss of weight in spite of increases in Appetite.
  • Fatigue with weakness in muscles and Restlessness
  • Tremor of hands
  • Difficulty to concentrate
  • Frequent loose bowel movements
  • Hair becomes brittle, thin and even loss of hair.
  • Tolerance to Heat decreases and increased thirst.
  • Increased perspiration (sweating).
  • Women suffers from irregularity in periods.
  • Rapid heartbeat (palpitations) more than 100 beats a minute.
  • Protuberance of eyes (exophthalmos) or may be double vision. Even sometimes itching of eyes
  • Breast development may occur in men.
  • Clammy and thin skin and itching too.
  • High blood pressure
  • Nausea and vomiting

Ayurvedic Treatment of Hyperthyroidism

1. Immune Magic Capsules:

Immune magic Capsules are herbal supplements which has beneficial use in hyperthyroidism. It is productive formulation helpful in regulation of the metabolism of thyroid gland and controls the secretions of thyroid as well as maintains a healthy immune system and eliminates the toxins out from the body.

Immune magic capsule are prepared by using herbs and other natural ingredients rich in useful properties.

Ingredients:

  • Grape Seed (Vitis vinifera): They are rich with Vitamin E and Vitamin C. It is highly effective in boosting the immunity of the individuals.

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus): This herb provides strength to the body, boosting internal organs and helpful to fight the various symptoms of Hyperthyroidism like fatigue, weakness, debility, hair thinning, dryness etc.
