Ayurvedic Treatment for RUT (Rapid Urease Test) Positive - Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori) Infection

'RUT' is an acronym for 'Rapid Urease Test' which a commonly used biopsy-based method for diagnosing Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection. H. pylori is a major human pathogen which can cause progressive gastroduodenal damage. It is a kind of bacteria which is believed to be responsible for chronic gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal (digestive) disorders, and potentially gastric cancer.

The RUT -- also called the Campylobacter-like organism test (CLO test) or, simply, Urease test -- is a simple and cheap diagnostic test for H. pylori infection. It is a popular diagnostic test because of its rapid and accurate characters. This test can effectively detect the presence of urease enzyme in or on the gastric mucosa. The basis of the test is H. pylori bacteria's ability to secrete the urease enzyme, which catalyzes the conversion of urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide.

For establishing the diagnosis of H. pylori infection, the RUT is performed at the time of gastroscopy. To perform this screening test, doctors take a biopsy of mucosa from the antrum of the stomach, and place it into a medium which contains urea and phenol red (or some other indicator). The urease produced by the H. pylori bacteria hydrolyzes urea to ammonia. As a result, the pH of the medium gets raised, and the color of the specimen changes from yellow (Negative) to red (Positive).

The term 'RUT Positive', therefore, means that the results of the Rapid Urease Test (RUT) are positive.

The RUT is generally carried out for patients who suffer from the following two conditions: (i) Helicobacter pylori gastrointestinal tract infection, and (ii) Stomach cancer.

According to Ayurveda, the H. pylori infection, for which the RUT is a popular diagnostic test, results from an imbalance of 'Pitta' dosha in the body. The H. pylori infection, as per Ayurvedic experts, is triggered by the onset of 'Amla pitta' --- a health condition associated with acidity. The infection can spread via direct mouth-to-mouth contact between an infected person and a healthy individual, or by consuming contaminated food and water, or living in unhygienic conditions.

SYMPTOMS OF H. PYLORI INFECTION DETECTED BY RUT

Some of the most common symptoms of H. pylori infection, which can be detected with the help of the RUT diagnostic test, are:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Burning sensation in the abdomen
  • Bloating
  • Frequent burping
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Heartburn
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite (Anorexia)
  • Sudden weight loss.

TREATMENT OF H. PYLORI INFECTION DETECTED BY RUT

After the RUT diagnostic test establishes the diagnosis of H. pylori infection, the patients suffering from the infection need to be treated properly, in a timely manner, because the infection can potentially lead to several other health problems. For treating H. pylori infection, doctors generally prescribe a combination of antibiotics and acid-reducing medicines to the patients.

Ayurvedic treatment for H. pylori infection involves the use of herbs. There are some excellent herbal formulations offered by Planet Ayurveda herbal manufacturing company which can be extremely beneficial in managing the symptoms of H. pylori infection. Ayurvedic Treatment for Pangastritis - Symptoms, Causes, Home Remedies, Diet & Lifestyle

Pangastritis is defined as the inflammation of entire lining of the stomach. The inflammation of gastritis is most often seen as the result of infection with the same bacterium that causes stomach ulcers. Pangastritis can occur suddenly known as acute gastritis or appear slowly over time known as chronic gastritis.

When we eat food, it goes down through the food pipe and it is stored in stomach for about 1.5-2 hours. In the stomach, food undergoes disintegration into small particles. HCl (Hydrochloric Acid) kills the micro-organisms present in the food. The small portion of the food is absorbed. After 1.5-2 hours, the food is pushed down to intestine for further digestion.

If the inner lining of the stomach is irritated or damaged or inflamed, this condition is known as gastritis. The stomach lining can become inflamed due to certain reasons like heavy alcohol consumption, eating spicy and junk food, stress etc.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF PANGASTRITIS?

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Burning ache or pain in the upper abdomen
  • Feeling of fullness in the upper abdomen after eating.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF PANGASTRITIS?

  • In erosive gastritis drugs, alcohol, acute stress and infection can precipitate the condition.
  • In most non-erosive gastritis conditions, H.pylori often found in people who suffer from no significant symptoms of gastritis. The symptoms appear when the gut becomes a conducive environment for H.pylori to colonise. According to Ayurvedic concept, the inbuild of toxins and impurities, blockage of proper circulation in the gut creates ground for mucosal irritation from both the toxins and H.pylori growth.

According to Ayurveda, root causes of Pangastritis are poor eating habits, taking incompatible food, intake of spicy and fried foods. Due to these foods, food is not digested properly and it provokes the excess of acidic secretion and thus results in gastric irritation.

According to Ayurveda, this disease is of Pitta origin so all measures are undertaken to pacify Pitta, therefore medicament should subside the irritation. After once complete remission of the complaints, elixirs are prescribed so as to check the re-manifestation of the similar conditions in coming days.

According to Ayurveda, line of treatment for pangastritis involves the following steps:
