Ayurvedic Treatment for Cervical Lymph Nodes - Categories, Symptoms, Causes & Herbal Remedies

CERVICAL LYMPH NODES: OVERVIEW

Cervical lymph nodes are the lymph nodes -- or small glands -- which are located in the neck region. These lymph nodes, nearly 300 in number, are an important part of the lymphatic system which a component of the human immune system.

The lymphatic system comprises nodes and vessels -- called lymphoid tissues -- which are located at different parts of the body. There are a total of around 800 lymph nodes in the body. These lymph nodes basically filter the lymph, that is, the clear fluid which circulates through the lymphatic system.

The nodes and vessels comprising the lymphatic system are basically responsible for offering protection to the body against infections. For this purpose, the lymphatic system delivers ‘lymphocytesor immune cells to those parts of the body where the immune response has been triggered.

Cervical lymph nodes found in the neck are subject to several pathological conditions including inflammation, infections, tumours and immune disorders.

GENERAL CATEGORIES OF CERVICAL LYMPH NODES

Generally, cervical lymph nodes can be categorized into two groups: Anterior cervical lymph nodes and Posterior cervical lymph nodes.

The Anterior cervical lymph nodes are located under the chin (submental nodes) and the jawline (submaxillary or tonsillar nodes), while the Posterior cervical lymph nodes are located along the back of the neck.

On the basis of the position of Anterior cervical lymph nodes near the structures of the throat, the nodes which are located further down the front of the neck are divided into four categories --- Prelaryngeal lymph nodes (located in front of the larynx or voice box); Thyroid lymph nodes (located close to the thyroid gland); Pretracheal lymph nodes (located in front of the trachea or windpipe); and Paratracheal lymph nodes (located near the sides of the trachea).

Furthermore, the Cervical lymph nodes which are located next to the internal jugular vein that runs near the sides of the neck are Deep cervical lymph nodes, and are categorised as lateral jugular, anterior jugular, and jugulo-digastric lymph nodes.

REASONS FOR SWOLLEN LYMPH NODES

Swelling of the lymph nodes is a fairly common condition which usually is caused by exposure to bacteria or viruses; for example, those which cause the common cold. However, in some rare cases, swollen lymph nodes can be an indication of a serious health condition.

Ayurvedic Treatment for NHL Cancer

Felling enthusiasm, prosperity, activeness, positivity and wealth means you are quite fit and fine. Under the roof of this body sheath, many cells, tissues, vessels and organs associate to make body workable. Aberrant growth in any part of this body and body parts leads to a serious illness that is spreading like a wildfire these days. This illness is known with a prevailing name – cancer. This occurs when there is abnormal growth of cells in the body. These cells just get split and grow more and more. This overgrowth results in formation of lumps (tumor), which further spread to the surrounding tissues and cause cancer. Here we discuss one type of cancer that can originate and affects various parts of the human body. This is called as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) cancer.

What Is NHL Cancer?

A cancer that originates in the lymphatic system. It is a system consist of various tissues and vessels that consists a fluid - lymph. This is an integral part of immune system of the body. The fluid lymph contains numerous white blood cells that help to combat illness. These carry waste, harmful things (bacteria, virus, abnormal cells and toxins) from body parts and destroy them. These vessels carry these waste to the blood and then expels out of the body.

So any malfunctioning in this system causes in production of abnormal growth of white blood cells present in the lymph. These cells keep on dividing, start collaborating in vessels and swell the vessels. This cause problem in organ functioning. These are found in organs like neck, tonsils, arms, chest, thymus, abdomen, and spleen.

What Are The Classes Of Nhl Cancer?

Two immune cells are there which are present in major volume in lymph. These are B- cells (generate antibodies to treat infections) and T-cells (kill foreign non-appropriate substances). This cancer is mainly due to B-cells.

The main classified cancer types originate due to B-cells and these are

  1. Diffuse large B cell lymphoma - it causes up to 40% of NHL cancer. It is due to abnormal growth of B cells. In this condition, first sign is swollen mass in neck, stomach or groin, fever and weight loss.
  2. Follicular lymphoma - B cells gathering in lymph nodes. It shows symptoms of swelling, fever, sweat and fever. In its later stage, other problems like anemia, leukopenia, bone marrow dysfunction and more are seen.

Other types of NHL cancer are

  • Burkitt lymphoma
  • Thyroid lymphoma
  • T cell lymphoblastic lymphoma
  • CNS lymphoma
  • HIV-related lymphoma etc.

Risk Factors For NHL Cancer

  • Immune system suppressing medications
  • Weak immunity
  • Bacterial and viral infections – H. pylori, HIV, Epstein-Barr virus and HCV.

Symptoms of NHL cancer

  • Swollen lymph nodes in neck, armpit or groin.
  • Chest pain
  • Abdominal pain or swelling
  • Breathlessness
  • Fever
  • Weight loss

What Test Can Diagnose Nhl Cancer?

  • Through physical examination
  • Blood tests like complete blood count to check the white blood cell count and lactate dehydrogenase test.
  • CT-scan or X-ray – to check tumor formation
  • Biopsy.

NHL cancer management can be done very effectively through ayurvedic treatment. As Ayurveda concerns on all the factors body, mind and soul. This treats and manages the condition without any side effects.

AYURVEDA is an ancient herbal medicinal system in which all the diseases are treated with the use of herbs. It originated around 5000 years back in India.
