Herbal Treatment for Granulomatous Mastitis

Granulomatous Mastitis, granular lobular mastitis

Granulomatous Mastitis or granular lobular mastitis a rare disease which is quite similar to breast cancer. This disorder is characterized by pain and inflammation of breast. It usually occurs after 2-6 months of pregnancy. Ayurveda provides natural treatment for this disease without any side effects.

WHAT IS GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS?

It is a breast disorder which causes breast inflammation and develops a tissue mass. This condition is similar to breast cancer and it is difficult to differentiate from breast cancer. The lumps are mostly present in sub areolar region and are hard.

It is very rarely diagnosed in pregnancy and in men. It is easily confused with cancer but it is absolutely benign.

It is of two types:

  1. Idiopathic Granulomatous mastitis or granular lobular mastitis.
  2. Granulomatous mastitis

CAUSES

The exact cause of this disorder is unknown.

  • Obstruction in milk duct
  • Bacterial infection
  • Elevated prolactin level

SYMPTOMS

  • Lump formation in breasts
  • Inflammation of breasts
  • Fluid secretion from breasts
  • Pain
  • Fever
  • Warmth feeling in breast
  • Enlargement of lymph nodes
  • Discharge from nipples

DIAGNOSIS

  • CT scan
  • X-Ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Core biopsy

COMPLICATIONS

This disorder might give rise to serious disorders. In case Granulomatous mastitis forms an abscess, lump then it has to be removed by surgery. And these complications occur in case of negligence. If you take proper care right when the first symptom shows up then it can be cured.

AYURVEDIC POINT OF VIEW

Ayurveda is based on three energies that are vata, pitta and kapha, which are responsible for good health and imbalance of any three energies may result in ill health. According to Ayurveda, granulomatous mastitis is inflammation of breast is mainly due to vitiation of the three energies. HERBAL REMEDIES FOR GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS

Herbal Remedies for Granulomatous Mastitis

1. Neem Capsules

  • Til oil (Sesamum indicum)

4. Boswellia Curcumin

Ingredients:-

  1. Boswellia Serrata - Boswellia helps in decreasing and repairing the inflamed area. It also consists of potent analgesic properties and also improves the blood circulation.
  2. Curcuma Longa - Curcumin or turmeric are anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant in nature. Also this herb hinders the growth of the cells that cause inflammation.

Dosage: 2 capsules twice a day, with plain water after meals.

5. Gandhaka Rasayana

This formulation consists of Purified sulphur along with other herbs and it helps in curing infections by balancing Vata, Pitta and Kapha doshas and it has antibacterial properties. It helps in rejuvenation.

  • Cow milk
  • Cinnamon
  • Cardamom
  • Tej patra
  • Nagakeshara
  • Tinospora
  • Terminalia chebula

  • Sugar syrup

Patients with diabetes should administer it with care as it consists of sugar.

Dosage: 2 tablets twice a day after meals.

Ayurvedic treatment for Granulomatous Mastitis

WHAT IS GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS (GM)?

It is rare chronic inflammatory condition of breast. In this condition the breast gets inflamed and develops a tissue mass. It is difficult to differentiate from breast cancer because it is similar to breast cancer. It may occur at any time but it is most common after 2-6 years of pregnancy. It may involve all parts of breast. It may present as distinct firm lump mostly in sub areolar region (area behind nipples) of breast.

GM is divided into two types - Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (Granular lobular mastitis) and Granulomatous mastitis.

SYMPTOMS OF GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS

Common Sign and Symptoms of GM are given below:

  • Formation of lumps in breasts
  • Breast inflammation
  • Excretion of fluid from breasts
  • Pain in breasts
  • Retraction of the nipples
  • Enlargements of lymph nodes
  • Fever
  • Warmth feeling in breast on touch.

CAUSES OF GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS

The exact cause of GM is unknown. It is an autoimmune disease. Some of other causes may be:

  • Blockage of milk duct: If breast is not completely empty after feeding, it may block milk duct or become clogged that results in breast infection.
  • Bacterial infection: Sometimes a bacteria may enter milk duct of breast through baby’s mouth or through surface that results in infection.
  • Elevated prolactin level.

DIAGNOSIS OF GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS

It is difficult to diagnose only on the basis of symptoms. Doctors diagnose GM on the basis of physical examination and some tests.

Physical examination - doctors diagnose symptoms such as fever, chills, pain and area around the nipples of breast.

TESTS

  • CT scan
  • X-Ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Core biopsy- it is main test to diagnose GM. In this a sample of tissue is taken from breast for analysis.

COMPLICATIONS

COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS

If it is left untreated then it may cause severe problems. If GM occurs due to blockage it may block the duct completely due to accumulation of pus (abscess) in that region and forms breast mass or lump and it requires surgery to remove it. To avoid such severe condition consult a doctor as soon as possible according to sign and symptoms.
