But it is said when the capsule becomes unable to move because it becomes thick and tight, it leads to the formation of less synovial fluid, resulting in the formation of bands of scar tissue. The movement of the capsule is restricted due to some factors and systemic disease, which are as follow -

DEVELOPMENT OF FROZEN SHOULDER

Frozen shoulder develops slowly and the development of Frozen shoulder can be described in three stages, which are -

  1. Stage - I or Freezing stage - This stage lasts from 6 to 9 months. In this stage, pain occurs and the shoulder's range of motion starts to become limited and any movement of the shoulder causes pain.It worsens over time and causes more discomfort at night.
  2. Stage - II or Frozen stage - This stage lasts from 4 to 12 months. Pain starts diminishing during this stage but the shoulder becomes stiffer and its movement becomes difficult.
  3. Stage - III or Thawing stage - This stage lasts from 6 months to 2 years. During this stage, the range of motion begins to improve.

DIAGNOSIS

Following diagnostic methods are used to diagnose this condition -

  • Physical examination - Your doctor may ask you to move your shoulder in certain ways to check for pain and will evaluate your range of motion (active range of motion) and to relax your muscles while moving your arm (passive range of motion).
  • By injecting an anesthetic agent - Your doctor might inject your shoulder with an anesthetic agent or a numbing medicine to determine your passive and active range of motion.
  • Imaging tests - Your doctor may advise you to undergo some tests, such as X-rays or an MRI, to rule out other problems.

PREVENTION

It is well known to all of you that "Prevention is always better than cure". If you've had an injury that makes your shoulder movement difficult then talk to your doctor because one of the most common causes of frozen shoulder is the immobility, resulting during recovery from a shoulder injury, broken arm or a stroke
