costochondritis

Costochondritis is known as Chest pain or costo-sternal syndrome. It is also known as chest pain because its symptoms resemble the chest pain. If the swelling is accompanied by pain, it is known as Tietze syndrome.

It is characterised by the inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the sternum (breast bone). The pain caused by costochondritis sometimes mimic that of a heart attack or other heart conditions.
