Spinocerebellar Ataxia, SCA

Spinocerebellar Ataxia is a neurodegenerative disorder which slowly leads to progressive clumsiness. There are nearly more than 30 different types of this disorder. Among all, Spinocerebellar Ataxia is the most common genetic disease.

Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA) is mainly caused due to genetic mutation.

The genetic mutation which leads to this disorder is also known as" expansion mutations". Expansion mutation leads to formation of nucleotides of chromosome which are repeated. This formation mostly affects the patients suffering with Spinocerebellar ataxia and is repeated. This disorder is autosomal dominant and is an inherited disease condition. It means that chances are that if father or mother acquires it, then it is likely to be passed onto the child.

Life Expectancy In case of Spinocerebellar Ataxia

Life expectancy according to a research is believed to be between 19 to 25 years.

Ataxia is considered as a Beej dosha disease. Due to decreased pranayatna (action potential), less ATP production (urga karma) is there. This leads to decreased cellular metabolism (known as bala in ayurveda), due to which ama drvya is produced at the cellular levels. This ama leads to obstruction and iron alternation reacts with oxygen to produce free radicals (known as ama visha) and destroys cellular processes.
