Ayurvedic Treatment of Hypopituitarism - Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Herbal Remedies

Hypopituitarism is an atypical medical disorder in which the pituitary gland fails to or produces less hormones. The pituitary gland is a small bean-shaped gland found in the base of brain, behind the nose and between the ears. Despite being small in size, pituitary gland secretes or discharges the hormones that influence nearly every part of the body.

The pituitary gland sends signals to other glands to produce hormones, such as thyroid hormone. Short supply of pituitary hormones affects a number of body functions like growth, blood pressure and reproduction.

The pituitary gland produces numerous hormones. Some important hormones are:

It motivates the adrenal glands (glands on the kidneys that produce hormones). ACTH prompts the adrenal glands to secret a hormone called cortisol, which regulates metabolism and blood pressure.

TSH is a hormone that encourages production and secretion of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland (a gland in the hormone system). Thyroid hormones regulate the body's metabolism and is important in its growth and development.

These are the hormones that control sexual function in males and females. They are also known as gonadotropins or sex hormones and include estrogen and testosterone.

GH is a hormone that stimulates normal growth of bones and tissues.

It is a hormone that stimulates milk production and female breast growth.
