Ayurvedic Treatment of Balanitis - Causes, Symptoms & Herbal Remedies

Sexual health is a very important topic to discuss. But people hesitate to talk regarding their sexual problems. It is a very crucial topic as these are also a cause of major health issues. Health is the state of physical, emotional and social well-being in relation to sexuality. It comprises of the clinical issues related to prevention of STDs [sexual transmitted diseases] and if you feel any discomfort in your sexual health, it reflects & disturbs your routine functionality also. So, take a step and share your problem with your doctor because it is very important to correct this otherwise like other ailments, this also gets difficult with time.

Out of such problems, there is one problem we'll discuss in detail here- Balanitis. This is the problem which is related to sexual health and generally occur in men.

Balanitis is the disorder of male genital organ, penis. This involves inflammation and swelling of the penis [glans] head. In this infection the foreskin [loose flap skin] of the organ that is known to cover the head of the penis, also gets affected.

The incidence of this disease happens to one in 30 men and this can occur at any age but also happens in boys who are under four years.

WHAT ARE THE REASONS BEHIND THE PROBLEM OF BALANITIS?

Following are the reasons that can cause Balanitis:

Due to Infections

Non STDs:-

This disease can be due to the germs present on the skin. The most common yeast through which this occurs is – candida. This yeast lives on the skin, that can cause infection.

This fungus can emerged from other ways also such as:-

  • Through the usage of antibiotic wipes.
  • Through uncontrolled diabetes.

STDs:-

  • Sexually transmitted diseases can cause balanitis such as herpes, gonorrhea and syphilis etc.
  • The yeast candida can be transmitted through sexual contact also.

Due to Allergic Conditions

The skin of the gland is very sensitive, any kind of reactant can cause allergy to that part which further causes balanitis.

The allergants are:-

  • Disinfectants and soaps.
  • Over washing or scrubbing
  • Condoms and lubricants can irritate the skin

Medical Conditions

The condition of diabetes increases the risk of disease as the high sugar content promotes the growth of germs that leads to itching and swelling.

Skin Problem

Skin infection such as psoriasis may cause balanitis.

Poor Hygiene

Poor hygiene can cause irritation. As this is caused via smegma (a sebaceous substance, form under foreskin, if the end of the skin is not hygienic and clear.

  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Discharge
  • Rashes
  • Soreness
  • Swelling

  • Painful urination

Well, the problem of balanitis is managed through medications. But if these medication is in a natural way. This is the best method to manage the condition.

Natural treatment is based on the natural elements and these refers to plants. Plants are known to store useful energy in it in the form of active chemicals. These chemicals are known to provide therapeutic properties to the plants that are further known to cure the problem and diseases. The medicinal system of healing that deals with this is known by the name of Ayurveda.

Ayurveda is an ancient medicinal system of healing. This system is originated in India. This is the system that is bound up by the rishis who emphasis spiritual and ayurvedic practices. The texts regarding this are explained in ancient Vedas also.

  • Kapha dosha (made up of water and earth) – manages the low immunity, muscle growth and its stability.
  • Pitta dosha (made up of water and fire) – manages digestion and metabolism of the system.

HOW THE PROBLEM OF BALANITIS RELATED WITH AYURVEDA?

According to Ayurveda pitta is known to balance – stress and sex life, on the other hand kapha – healthy sexuality & stamina and vata – healthy prostate. Now in the condition of foreskin inflammation, the doshas – kapha and pitta get affected. So, pacifying these doshas is important as we can control the condition of balanitis.

From herbs, there are many herbal formulations that can be made which can help in controlling this problem.

1. Chandanadi Vati

  • Choti Elaichi (Elettaria Cardamomum)
  • Gairik
  • Pashanbhed (Bergenia ligulata)

These herbs are known to have medicinal properties like detoxifying, aphrodisiac, coolant and blood purifying. These properties are also known to maintain certain STDs disease such as gonorrhea, premature ejaculation, other infections like palpitations, inflammation and worm infestation. These herbs also balance the alleviated pitta and kapha. Even in Ayurveda, these properties are explained such as Krumighna (worm infestation), Vrushya (aphrodisiac) and Dahahara (relieve from burninig) etc. so this formulation is very helpful to control balanitis.

Dosage - 2 morning 2 evening on daily after half an hour of meal with plain water.

2. Chanderprabha Vati

This formulation is the mixture of certain useful herbs -

  • Shilajit (Asphaltum)
  • Guggul (Commiphora mukul)
  • Sharkara (Sugar)
  • Karpoor (Cinnamomum camphora
  • Vacha (Acorus calamus)
  • Amalaki (Emblica officinalis)
  • Chavya (Piper chaba)
  • Vidanga (Embelia ribes)
  • Mustak (Cyprus rotundus)
  • Haridra (Curcuma longa)
  • Sarjikashaar (Sodium carbonate)
  • Yavkshaar (Potassium carbonate)   
  • Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia)
  • Shunthi (Zingiber officinalis)
  • Maricha (Piper nigrum)
  • Saindhav Lavan (Rock salt)
  • Tejpatta (Cinnamomum tamala)
  • Ela (Elettaria cardamomum)   
  • Suvarchal Lavan (Sodium sulphate)
  • Vida Lavan (Black salt)
  • Pippali (Piper longum
  • Danti (Baliospermum montanum)
  • Dalchini (Cinnamomum zeylanicum)

These herbs are known to have certain useful properties that known to provide better sexual health. This formulation provides relief from stress, sugar problem, weakness, inflammation, soreness and hardening of foreskin of penis. This also known to pacify pitta. These all functions control the balanitis problem.

Dosage - 2 morning 2 evening take after meals.

3. Kaishore Guggul

This formulation is enriched with the herbs which control the skin infections, so this is very effective in case of balanitis. This formulation is known to get rid of itching, inflammation, skin infections, redness and excess pitta. This formulation has the following herbs:-

  • Guggul (Commiphora mukul
  • Amalaki (Emblica officinalis)           
  • Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica)        
  • Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)
  • Red Physic Nut (Baliospermum montanum)                 
  • Indian Jalap (Ipomoea turpethum)    
  • Guduchi herb (Tinospora cordifolia)         
  • Ginger (Zingiber officinale)     
  • Black pepper (Piper nigrum)           
  • Long pepper (Piper longum)   
  • Vidanga (Embelia ribes)

Dosage - 2 morning 2 evening after meals, with plain water.

4. Pitta Balance

This formulation controls the aggravated pitta in the body. This cools down the body, reduces inflammation and hardening. It is very helpful in managing balanitis. These properties come from the ingredients of the herbs. These ingredients are:-

  • Praval Pishti (Coral Calcium)  
  • Akik Pishti (Agate Calcium)  
  • Mukta Pishti (Pearl Calcium)  
  • Giloy Satva (Tinospora corifolia)    
  • Kamdudha Ras (an Ayurvedic Calcium compound)     
  • Jahar Mohra Pishti (An Ayurvedic Calcium compound)

Dosage - 1 morning 1 evening every day.

5. Jatyadhi Oil

This formulation is in the form of oil. This contains chameli patra, neem patra, yashthimadhu, haldi, daruhaldi, lodhra, haritaki, til oil etc. which help to treat skin issues such as inflammation, burning and redness.
