Wheat Allergy - Ayurvedic Treatment for Wheat Allergy - Celiac Disease - Coeliac Disease

According to Ayurveda the allergy is nothing but lack of energy, due to the imbalance of tridosha i.e. Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

According to modern system of medicine, there are 4 types of allergens, namely - ALBUMINS, GLOBULINS, PROLAMINS, GLUTELINS

Within wheat prolamins are called gliadins and glutelins are called glutenins. These two protein groups form the classic glutens. While gluten is a causative agent of Coeliac disease (CD), coeliac disease can be contrasted to gluten allergy by the involvement of different immune cells and antibody types and because the list of allergens extend beyond the classic gluten category of proteins.

Wheat allergy is an auto-immune disease which causes reaction to proteins (especially gluten) found in wheat. The immune system of a person having wheat allergy develops a specific antibody, a disease-fighting agent, to the wheat protein. Besides environmental factors, genetic factors are also responsible for the ailment.

Symptoms of Wheat Allergy

Common symptoms of a wheat allergy include eczema (atopic dermatitis), hives (urticaria), asthma, "Hay fever" (allergic rhinitis), angioedema (tissue swelling due to fluid leakage from blood vessels), abdominal cramps, nausea, and vomiting.

Rarer symptoms include anaphylactic shock, arthritis, bloated stomach, chest pains, depression or mood swings, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, joint and muscle aches and pains, palpitations, psoriasis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), swollen throat or tongue, tiredness and lethargy, and unexplained cough. Reactions may become more severe with repeated exposure.

  2. Yes, using these herbs and Ayurvedic remedies helps a lot in Celiac disease or wheat allergy cases. These medicines do not interact with modern medical treatment, which is usually focussed on avoiding wheat and taking gluten free diet.
The bael fruit along with Kutza tree bark is very useful. ( Bael - Aegle marmelos and Kutza is Halorrhena antidysentrica)

The treatment is quicker in this case. I don't think Ayurveda treatment is slow. It works quickly in most of the problems.

  5. Ayurvedic treatment of Wheat allergy or Celiac disease gives excellent results especially in children. There are many patients who benefited using ayurvedic medicines and were suffering from wheat allergy. We are not going to take any risks or give ayurvedic medicines and ask you to start giving wheat immediately. Using Ayurvedic medicines in a wheat allergy patient is safe and does not cause any side effects. While the Ayurvedic treatment for wheat allergy is going on, the tests like tTG can be repeated and the Ig levels can also be monitored regularly.

Ayurvedic remedies like Jahar Mohra Pishti, Praval Panchamrit, Mukta Panchamrit which are made from pearls, conch shells ( natural calciums) give good results in wheat allergy.

Herbs like Kutza and bael fruit are also useful in wheat allergy patients.

sir, our twin daughters aged 13 yrs are suffering from wh allergy for last 7 years.their ttg levels are normal since long. no medicines but only no wheat. my question is after taking these medicines can we start giving wheat in small proportions

    ReplyDelete
  7. you can use this formula and slowly you can start giving her wheat... also keep monitoring the ttg levels. This should help in wheat allergy.

  8. Celiac disease is not a simple wheat allergy. It is an autoimmune disease with a genetic component somewhat similar to diabetes type 1 where the intestine is destroyed when gluten is consumed. It is possible to have a wheat allergy and not have celiac disease. In that case, these medicines may work. But these may not work for celiac disease. Homeopathy may help, but not sure. (I'm trying to find out myself.)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes, I agree with you. Celiac disease is difficult to treat than Wheat allergy. Though there are lot of patients who come to me who are suffering from celiac disease and I give them the Ayurvedic treatment for Wheat Allergy and get excellent results in Celiac disease.
I do not know much about Homeopathic treatment of Celiac disease but I have seen good results in treating wheat allergy patients as well as Celiac disease patients. I personally know it is a cumbersome disease and it is really a painful experience for the parents as well.
Thanks for writing - Dr. Vikram

  10. Thanks for your reply Vikram. Also do you know whether taking amla and aloe help? (I have been taking both for a few months but no results yet.)

Also what is the best treatment for hormonal imbalance? I have facial hair and scalp hair loss (I am a 29 year old female). I am taking Himalaya's product "StressCare" which contains shatavari but would something like Kanchanar Guggulu help?? Please advise. I am losing so much hair I don't know what to do. I am also taking shilajit since I am deficient in minerals.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Namaste ! Amla is ok but Aloe I won't recommend for Wheat allergy. Aloe can be little irritant to gastric and intestinal mucusa, especially because of the anthroquinones in the leaf juice ( Gel may also contain some anthroquinones) anyway, Aloe is not recommended in Wheat allergy in my opinion.

For Scalp Hair loss- Shatavari capsules or Naari-kalyan churna ( check at planetayurveda.com or search google.com ) I explained this one at - http://www.planetayurveda.com/menopause-herbal-remedies.htm

Naari Kalyan contains shatavari, bramhi, ashwagandha, Jatamansi.. This is good for overall female health and will help in scalp hair loss.
Along with Naari-Kalyan Churna, you can take Amla capsules.. or Amalaki Churna..
Stress care is also ok but Churna is recommended.

Kachnaar Guggul is not recommended for hair loss
    Shilajit is ok.
So only 3 things -Amla, Naarikalyan and Shilajit.

  12. Hi, thank you so much for your quick reply. Actually I have slight hypothyroid too, so that is why my homeopathic doctor suggested kanchanar guggulu. Also I have severe oozing eczema which seems to be related to intake of gluten, soy, eggs, dairy. I stopped eating them but if I do get eczema which oozes with honey-like clear fluid. I also have Vitamin D deficiency and iron deficiency (and other minerals). So will kanchanar guggulu make my hair loss worse?? Please reply, I am about to start taking it!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes, for Hypothyroid you can take it..It won't make hair loss worse.. For Eczema, please contact my wife - Dr. meenakshi ( she is expert in skin problems - drmeenaxi@yahoo.com) Please write to my mail id -herbalremedies123@yahoo.com for further correspondence. 26. Dear Dr Vikram
I have read your blog with interest and hope for help with my 8yr old son who has celiacs. Although I am strict with his diet and adhere as much as possible to Ayurvedic food principles, my son has never fully recovered his health and vitality. Before he became ill he was a big child (pitta kapha prakriti) but has become very skinny, short and emotionally changed from confident to very quiet and easily overwhelmed. The doctors cannot find a cause but blame me for not giving him enough calories even though my son has little appetite and he eats as much as he wants. He gets adequate sleep - about 11 hours and plenty of outdoor exercise. But joint pain and fatigue are a problem. His tongue is clear except for a deep crack down the middle over the colon.

ps I notice your remedy contains bhasma which is not allowed in the UK. Please could you advise me on a course of action and diet/yoga which can help my son. I am contemplating giving him ashwagandha. I would appreciate any advice you could give me or perhaps a telephone consultation?
    Kind regards

  29. Great article Dr. Vikram Chauhan. Very relevant with the increased number of people suffering from gluten intolerance today with the hybridised wheat increasing the gluten beyond our immune and digestive capabilities to break it down! When I studied Ayurveda in India I was told that the first disease recorded in Ayurveda correlated to the time wheat was introduced into our diets but I can't find anything written about it online. Can you tell me anything about that? Again many thanks for sharing your expertise.

  43. Dear Sir,
Myself Rakesh a 41 year old male, last week I was hospitalised for anemia with Hb levels 5 and after many tests doctors told that there is deficiency of folic acid & vitamin B12 and the nutrients are not being absorbed. Then the performed UGIE test.

The biopsy of the tiny tissues taken from the intestine during endoscopy says " duodenal biopsy shows decreased villous: crypt ratio with edematous and broadened villi. There is dense infiltration by lymphocytes and plasma cells into the lamina propria with some lymphocytes seen intraepithelially."

The Impression part says " Features are consistent with duodenal mucosal injury. Possibility of celiac disease or tropical sprue may be considered."

Please let me know whether the treatment of the same is possible & can I live a normal life?
