Treatment of Arthrogryposis Multiple Congenital Disorder with Ayurveda

Congenital multiple arthrogryposis, also known as arthrogryposis, refers to the most severe congenital malformations of the musculoskeletal system. The disease in most cases endsup to in severe disability. The article is dedicated to the treatment of severe congenital pathology – Arthrogryposis Multiple Disorder. Providing general information about this pathology and, the causes of its occurrence.

WHAT IS ARTHROGRYPOSIS MULTIPLE CONGENITAL DISORDER?

Arthrogryposis is a disease characterized by congenital contractures of two or more joints of non-adjacent areas in combination with muscular hypo- or atrophy, damage to spinal cord motor neurons, with the exclusion of other known systemic diseases. It is a congenital pathology of the movement apparatus, manifested by numerous joint contractures, muscle wasting, and spinal cord injury.

Arthrogryposis Multiple Congenital Disorder

Congenital multiple arthrogryposis is a form of arthrogryposis, in which there is multiple damages to the joints of the upper and (or) lower extremities, as well as in some cases of the spine. It manifests itself with multiple gross deformities and contractures of the joints of the extremities in combination with damage to the tendon-muscular and ligamentous-ligamentous apparatus.

TYPES OF ARTHROGRYPOSIS MULTIPLE CONGENITAL DISORDER

There are the following types of arthrogryposis: Lesions of the lower extremities (Generalized), with lesions of the upper extremities (Distal form).

  • Generalized arthrogryposis (congenital multiple)- With a generalized type of arthrogryposis in severe cases, there is a lesion of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, and knee joints, deformities of the hands and feet, and the facial skeleton. Deformities of the spine are possible. Muscle hypotension or atony is characteristic. In the overwhelming majority of cases, the deformities of the limb segments are symmetrical and do not progress during the child's life. The defect of internal organs, as a rule, is not observed. In most cases, the intellect of patients is preserved.
  • Distal forms- In the distal type of arthrogryposis, deformities of the hands and feet are mainly observed, which in some cases are combined with the pathology of the large joints of the limbs, as well as with anomalies of the face and skull. This form is often a manifestation of hereditary diseases.

CAUSES OF ARTHROGRYPOSIS MULTIPLE CONGENITAL DISORDER

In general, the joint problems characteristic of arthrogryposis occur due to lack of movement within the uterus. This leads to atrophy of the muscles and stiffness of the muscle capsule (membrane that surrounds the joint), which results in limited movement in that region.

This lack of movement can occur due to several factors:

  • Diseases of the Central Nervous System, such as anencephaly and reduction of nerve cells in the spinal cord, which affect the baby's motor development.
  • Loss of amniotic fluid, which decreases the baby's ability to move
  • Multiple pregnancies, in which the baby ends up having less mobility due to lack of space
  • Maternal health complications, such as multiple sclerosis or vascular problems in the uterus
  • Use of drugs such as misoprostol (manufactured for the treatment and prevention of ulcer of the stomach, however, started to be used as an abortion), and drugs such as alcohol.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF ARTHROGRYPOSIS MULTIPLE CONGENITAL DISORDER

Arthrogryposis multiple congenital disorder is a congenital malformation that leads to severe disability. Multiple congenital arthrogryposis is a disease in which the bones in one or more joints are interconnected, and therefore, movement in the joint is impossible. The symptomatology of arthrogryposis multiple congenital disorder is diverse.

Symptoms for Upper Extremities

In a typical form of lesion of the upper limbs, symptoms of upper extremities are as follow:-

  • Shoulders are fixed in the position of adduction and internal rotation.
  • Elbow joints are extended or slightly bent.
  • Forearms are pronated.
  • Hands are in the position of palmar flexion.
  • Elbow abduction.

Symptoms for Lower Extremities

In the lower extremities, various symptoms may include:-

  • Two types of joint damage can be found: with extensor contractures in the knee joints, dislocations in the hip joints and plano-valgus or calcaneo-valgus deformities of the feet are often observed.
  • Flexion contractures in the knee joints are combined.
  • Flexion and abduction contractures in the hip joints and bilateral clubfoot.

Common signs and symptoms of Upper and Lower Extremities include:

  • Multiple contractures of large and small joints and severe muscle atrophy.
  • Anomalies of the musculoskeletal system - clubfoot and clubfoot, dislocation of the articular ends, amniotic constrictions, etc.
  • A feature of arthrogryposis is the symmetry of contractures and deformities, more frequent damage to the distal extremities, as well as extreme stability and rigidity of deformities. They are very difficult to correct and relapse easily.
  • Children with arthrogryposis usually have normal intelligence, but noticeably lag behind in physical development.

DIAGNOSIS

Surpassing an Arthrogryposis condition untreated for the long term can lead to countless complications. Thus, it is required to get treatment on the moment for not making the state intense. Lookout for medical help if experiencing above mentioned symptoms. Various Diagnosis techniques of Arthrogryposis multiple congenital may include:

  1. Ultrasound screening.
  2. X-ray of the modified joints.
  3. Electroneuromyography (ENMG) for spinal cord injury.
  4. Electroencephalography (EEG) for the nervous system.

COMPLICATIONS IN ARTHROGRYPOSIS MULTIPLE CONGENITAL DISORDER

Arthrogryposis multiple congenital disorders does not pose an immediate threat to life. Complications are common in the condition of delayed treatment.

Complications in Arthrogryposis multiple congenital disorder can be serious and may include the following:

  • Retention of contractures prevents the child from performing the simplest movements.
  • Complete immobilization of damaged joints and irreversible deformity of the limbs are considered serious complications.
  • In severe cases, damage to the growth zones of bones and secondary damage to the epiphyses are also encountered.
