Pheomhromocytoma is rarest of rare tumors of adrenal glands and secretes too much adrenaline and noradrenaline. This causes too much increase in heart rate, blood pressure, pulse rate and overall body metabolism. There are certain alternative ways to treat this cumbersome disease and get good results in this health problem. Ayurvedic medicine from India has been giving wonderful results in this disease which is called the Pitta, Vata Imbalance and finally involving the Kapha dosha as well. There are certain Ayurvedic remedies which are used in combination to help the problems like sweating, increased heart rate, dry mouth, weight loss, tremors, sleeping disorders and so on. The Ayurvedic treatment of Pheochromocytoma helps to live a better lifestyle and fight the disease while providing relief from side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
This is usually a single tumor and develops mainly in the medulla of both adrenal glands, but sometimes the metastatis can flow to other body parts as well. The pheochromocytoma which is cancerous is very rare but can spread and can occur at any age. The causes of pheochromocytoma are not very well understood in modern medicine but according to Ayurveda- the ancient healthcare system of Ayurvedic medicine from India, this tumor is categorized as “Pitta Arbud” . Arbud literally means tumor and Pitta means “fire energy”. It is a fire eliminating tumor and caused by imbalance of fire element in the body. The fire energy imbalance in the body is caused by genetic reasons, too much consumption of fiery food, spicy, hot food. Pitta prakriti is also one of the reason for formation of tumors. Prakriti is body type, so fiery body type is also sometimes responsible for such cancers.
The symptoms mainly consist of Abdominal pain, Chest pain, Palpitations, Sweating, Increased heart rate, dry mouth, irritability, pallor, headache, Weight loss, tremors, high blood pressure, sleeping problems and increased metabolism. The symptoms may come in bouts and unpredictably and can last up to 15-20 minutes. The severity, frequency and length of symptoms can increase as the tumor grows bigger in size.
DIGNOSIS OF PHEOCHROMOCYTOMA AND SIGNS
There are various signs like increased heart rate, fever, hot flushes, sweating and some tests can be conducted to confirm the underlying cause. The various tests to confirm the disease and make final diagnosis of Pheochromocytoma are following –
CT scan of abdomen
Biopsy of adrenals
Catchecholamines blood levels evaluation
Metanephrine blood test
MRI of abdomen
TREATMENT OF PHEOCHROMOCYTOMA
The treatment of pheochromocytoma in modern medical science is removing the tumor with surgery and stabilize blood pressure and other symptoms. There is no specific cure in modern medicine if the tumor can not be surgically removed. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy is not usually successful in treating this tumor. After surgery, it is necessary to continually monitor all vital signs in an intensive care unit. When the tumor cannot be surgically removed, medication is needed to manage it. This usually requires a combination of medications to control the effects of the excessive hormones. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy have not been effective in curing this kind of tumor.
In Ayurveda, the disease is categorized as “Pitta Imbalance” disease and the treatment is purely focused in restoring the pitta balance. Various ayurvedic medicines are given to keep the catchecholamines levels in control, reduce the sweating, shrink the tumor using ayurvedic herbs and minerals. There are many cases in which the tumors can be shrunk using various bhasma based medicines of Ayurveda in specific combinations.

There is an interesting case I would like to mention here. The lady is 48 years old , suffering from Pheochromocytoma ( cancerous) and was having big tumor inside her urinary bladder. After 2 months of treatment with the above combination, the tumor disappeared. This was a really happy news for the patient as well as myself. There are many others who are benefited after using these Ayurvedic medicines for cancer. These can be given along with the ongoing allopathic treatment, surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy without any side effects of interactions.
The high blood pressure can be controlled by using Sarpgandha ghan vati, and the recurrence of the tumor can be controlled by using Curcumin capsules. The level of Catchecholamines can also be controlled by Sarpgandha Ghan Vati.
Diet in Cancer and Pheochromocytoma
The diet in Pheochromocytoma and other cancers should be strictly alkaline diet. Do not consume citrus fruits – lemons, oranges. Every evening vegetables soup should be consumed. There is difference of opinion about alkaline and acidic diet. All natural fruits, ( except citrus), should be considered alkaline. All acidic fruits – lemons and oranges should be avoided. The acidic food like non-veg diet, proteins, yogurt, ( all sticky food), fire element disturbing diet, alcohol should be avoided at all cost.
