No doubt, it can occur at any age, but mostly it occurs in people with 40 years or more.

I am sure, now you are thinking of treatment. How can you control this joint disorder? To this question, we have the best answer. So, today we are going to give you a detail description of this disorder. Of course, we will give you an effective Ayurvedic treatment for the same as well. But before proceeding to this, we will first discuss about the disorder.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF RA?

Exact cause of Rheumatoid arthritis is not clear but it is found that the reason could be, that immune system attacks by sending antibodies mistakenly to the synovium - the lining of the membranes surrounding the joints, considering it to be a foreign agent which results in inflammation and thickening of the synovium, which can ultimately destroy the cartilage and bone within the join. Inflammation further causes damage to tendon, ligament. It may be a combination of genes and environment.

So, what actually happens in Rheumatoid arthritis? What are its symptoms?

It is actually an autoimmune disease that leads to chronic inflammation in the joints. It begins with fatigue, morning stiffness, body aches, weakness and loss of appetite. Later on, it causes pain in the joints. Joints become warm, tender and stiff when not used for a while. The swelling occurs when lining of joint known as synovium becomes inflamed and as a result, it gives off more fluid. The pain occurs on both sides of the body. Mostly, it affects wrists, knees, elbows, fingers, toes, ankle or neck.

What Ayurveda has to say for Rheumatoid arthritis?

Ayurveda is a natural healthcare system that offers natural way of healing. According to Ayurveda, any imbalance in the life forces or doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) leads to health problem. Hence, these doshas must be in balance in order to keep our body free from disease.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of arthritis that is caused due to the aggravation of vata dosha of the body. Accumulation of ama in the body is also responsible for the same. Ama (toxin) is a toxic product of improper digestion. This toxic product circulates in an entire body and gets collected at the weaker sites. When it gets deposited in the joints and with the aggravation of vata dosha, then this condition leads to disease which is known as aamvata. Arthritis is known as Aamvata in Ayurveda. When there is aggravation of pitta dosha too, then it leads to burning sensation in the affected joints. Hence, we can say, there is need to balance these aggravated doshas to treat the disorder, completely.

What is the need to treat Rheumatoid arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis must be treated in time as it pose a serious risk of some other problems as well. Yes, the disorder can lead to several complications. If left untreated, it may lead to osteoporosis. It may leads to dry mouth and eyes. It may impair the immune system and with the result, it increases the risk of infections. It can even increase the risk of heart problems. At the same time, it may also pose a risk for lymphoma too. Now, you can see, how serious this health problem is? The treatment, hence, is must in order to avoid any further complications too.

Ayurvedic treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis

Well, now it is the time to discuss the treatment. If we are talking about the treatment, then we should look at the one that do not pose a risk of any side effects. For that we have, Ayurvedic treatment. Yes, it does not cause any side effects. Instead, it always gives many benefits. Because, it treats the disorder from its root and not just control the symptoms. As it is a natural treatment, it is actually the safe one to manage any health problem.

Ayurvedic Approach Towards Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a common disorder of thyroid which is also known as underactive thyroid disease. Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone which is required by the body.

Role of Thyroid

The main function of the thyroid is to control the cells that use energy from the food by a process called metabolism. The metabolism of the body affects the temperature of the body, our heartbeat as well as affects how well we burn calories. If there is not enough thyroid hormone in the body, other processes of the body slow down. Your body will produce less energy and metabolism becomes sluggish.

Ayurvedic approach to Hypothyroidism

According to Ayurveda, an oldest system of health care, the function of thyroid is controlled by the Pitta (Agni) dosha. The metabolic processes that are carried out by the thyroid hormone are actually controlled by the pitta dosha. Ayurveda says, that, in Hypothyroidism Pitta dosha is covered by Kapha Dosha which in turn diminishes the cellular metabolism.

Is there any Ayurvedic treatment for Hypothyroidism?

Ayurvedic treatment of any disease is a natural and safer way to manage the symptoms of the disease. Ayurvedic treatment of hypothyroidism aimed at removing the kapha dosha that is coated over the pitta dosha. In this way, pitta dosha can perform its functions normally. The factors such as Healthy diet, healthy lifestyle as well as regular exercise are given equal importance by Ayurveda while treating any disease.

Diet for hypothyroidism

There are some goitrogenic foods that must be avoided as much as possible, in case, a person is suffering from hyperthyroidism. The goitrogenic foods contain natural goitrogens in it, which in turn are the chemicals that are responsible for the enlargement of the thyroid gland. These foods include broccoli, rapeseed, cauliflower cabbage, Brussels sprouts, etc. Cooking of such foods is known to make these chemicals less effective, but stay on safe side and avoid eating these foods especially as raw foods. Foods rich in iodine, like beetroot, radish, potatoes, fish, oatmeal and bananas, are good in order to manage the symptoms of hypothyroidism and hence should be included in the diet.

Smoking and alcohol consumption should also be avoided as these things decreases the thyroid hormone level in the body.

Diabetes (Prameha) Management in Ayurveda

diabetes, prameha, treatment, ayurvedic

The disease currently affects more than 62 million Indians, which is more than 7.1% of India's adult Population. An estimate shows that nearly 1 million Indians die due to Diabetes every year. The average age of onset is 42.5 years.

Charaka Samhita Chikitsasthana Chapter 6 deals with Prameha its causes, symptoms, types, treatment and diet for various urinary disorders and diabetes (Madhumeha).

Diabetes is also known as Madhumeha. Diabetes is also called Maharoga (Major Disease) as almost all parts of the body and every cell of human physiology is affected.

CAUSES OF PRAMEHA

आस्यासुखं स्वप्नसुखं दधीनि ग्राम्यौदकानूपरसाः पयांसि|

नवान्नपानं गुडवैकृतं च प्रमेहहेतुः कफकृच्च सर्वम्||

The main cause of prameha (diabetes) are lack of exercise, indisciplined eating habits, sedentary life style, and day time sleep, excess intake of curd, heavy diet, excess intake of milk products, new grains, jaggery and consumption of excess food which is oily and heavy (snigdha andguru) in nature.

Even modern medicine considers obesity, living standards according to urban life style as main causes of Type II Diabetes.

This kind of diet and lifestyle aggravates kapha in the body.

In Diabetes all doshas like kapha, pitta and vata are involved.  It is a major disease (Maharog) as important body tissues (dhatus) are vitiated in this disease.

THESE VITIATED TISSUES (DUSHYAS) ARE

Nutrient plasma (Rasa), Blood (Rakta), Skin (Mansa), Adipose tissue (Medas) , Marrow (Majja), Semen (Shukra) Lasika (Lymph), Body fluid (Jal), Ojas (Immunity factor), Fat underneath skin (Vasa) are involved. These are 10 dushyas of prameha.

ORIGIN OF THE DISEASE (PRAMEHA SAMPRAPTI – PATHOGENESIS)

Due to the above said factors, Kapha dosha is dominantly aggravated (in association with other doshas) and it vitiates medas (fat), mamsa (muscles), udaka (lymphatic channel), liquid elements of the body and causes different types of  prameha.

Vata gets imbalanced in prameha in two ways:

  1. Through obstruction in vessels due to Kapha (srothorodha)
  2. Degeneration of the body components (dhatu kshaya)

When vata draws tissue elements like Ojas, Majja and Lasika into the urinary tract and vitiates them to cause Madhumeha (Vataja Meha).

PRODROMAL SYMPTOMS (POORVARUPA)

Sweating, bad body odor, laziness, exudation of excreta from eyes, tongue and ears, bulkiness of the body, excessive growth of hair and nails, liking for cold things, dryness of the throat and palate ,sweet taste in the mouth, burning sensation in hands and feet and appearance of ants on the urine.

If these early symptoms are there one must be cautious about one's lifestyle.

THE MAIN SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE

  • Constant hunger
  • A lack of energy
  • Fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Excessive thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Dry ness of mouth

CLASSIFICATION OF PRAMEHA (DIABETES)

1) Sthula Pramehi – Those who are obese and strong
Nidana parivarjana is very importantfor Madhumeha. In sthula Madhumeha there is obstruction (margavarodha) of vata by increased kapha and fat (meda).

2) Krusha Pramehi – Those who are emaciated and weak.

These are classified in Ayurveda on very similar grounds as Diabetics are classified as NIDDM and IDDM respectively.

OTHER NAMES FOR THIS CLASSIFICATION OF PRAMEHA (DIABETES) ARE

Apathaya nimmitaj (Due to overeating and wrong eating habits)- Type II Diabetes

Sahaj pramehi (Congenital)-Type 1 Diabetes

OTHER CLASSIFICATION OF PRAMEHA (DIABETES) ON BASIS OF TRIDOSHA

According to Ayurveda, Prameha (diabetes) is a tridoshaja vyadhi. However the predominance of any one dosha and dooshya enables its classification into Vataja, Pitaja & Kaphaja Pramehas.

They are further sub classified into 20 sub categories according to characteristics of urine, its volume, dhatu being excreted through urine.

Kaphaja Prameha are of 10 types and they are curable.

Pittaja Prameha are of 6 types and they are only palliable (Yapya)

Vatika prameha are of 4 types they are incurable because of their extremely serious nature.

Juvenile diabetes for children (for unhealthy dietary practices of parents)

ACCORDING TO CHARAKA : THREE TYPES OF PROGNOSIS OF PRAMEHA

  1. Sadhya – Curable (Kapha type)
  2. Yapya – Disease remains under control as long as proper medicine is taken.(Pitta type)
  3. Asadhya – Incurable (vatatype) e.g. Madhumeha & inherited diabetes (Sahaja), Lean patients (krish)

INVOLVEMENT OF OJAS IN PRAMEHA (MADHUMEHA)

Ojas is the essence of life, an extract of the seven dhathus Rasa (Chyle), Rakta (Blood), Mamsa (Muscles), Meda (fat) Asthi (Bone), Majja (Marrow),  Sukra (Sperm & Ovum), Ojas represented as of the body. The ojas in a healthy person determines the physical and mental health of a person.

which is reddish, white, or yellowish in colour it is in heart and other vital organs of the body. If ojas is distrubed, degeneration will be fast and result in decreased life span.

MANAGEMENT OF PRAMEHA (MADHUMEHA)

According to Ayurveda the line of treatment for prameha is dependent on various factors:

  1. The prakriti of the patient
  2. Dosha dominance in disease
  3. Dooshya vitiation
  4. Obstruction in srotha
  5. Manasika Prakrithi
  6. Ahara & Vihara
  7. Hereditary factors etc

PLAN OF TREATMENT

Apatarpana Chikitsa: It is done as light diet plan (langhana) and purification (shodhan) for obese patient.

Santarpana Chikitsa: These formulations should be prepared such that they cause santarpana without causing vriddhi of kapha and medas. Vataja prameha patients are advised to have Bhrimhana medication & diet which increases dhathus in the body.

Chronic Constipation Treatment in Ayurveda

Chronic Constipation

Due to weak digestive fire, food is not digested properly that leads to indigestion. It is a common chronic disorder of lower digestive system in which the solid wastes of body are eliminated at irregular intervals or inefficiently and non-eliminated wastes starts accumulating in the large intestine.

Constipation may manifest in different ways - not passing bowels even once a day or a sense of incomplete evacuation. Although constipation is often looked upon as a common problem, if not treated or if treatment is delayed, it can lead to further problems such as fissures, fistulas, piles, lack of appetite and indigestion. Disease of constipation has not been discussed separately in Ayurvedic texts, it is occurrence as a symptom of various diseases and ways to tackle it has been described. Constipation is mentioned in Ayurvedic texts by the name of Vibandha meaning obstructing or binding of stool. Vibandha occurs when something is wrong somewhere in our food habits.

Causes

  • Irregular eating habits
  • Fasting excessively
  • Overeating
  • Incompatible food intake
  • Intake of excessive hot, cold, sour, pungent or dry food
  • Intake of water immediately after food
  • Stress
  • Excessive physical exertion
  • Suppressing natural urges
  • Heavy spicy foods
  • Sedentary lifestyle, lack of proper exercise
  • Poor dietary habits like consuming diet insufficient in fibres, fruits, fresh vegetables lead to difficult hard stools
  • Secondary causes like Ano-rectal disorders such as piles, tumors, rectocele, psychological factors like Excessive stress, mental exhaustion etc are some of the triggering causative factors causing constipation

PATHOGENESIS

Causative factors lead to Ama (toxin formed due to improper digestion) formation and abnormal movement of Apana vata (a sub type of vata dosha which helps in expulsion of the stool). This makes the stool dry, slowed peristalsis and retention of stools in colon or pakvashaya . Hence the person feels difficulty in passing stools leading to Vibandha or Constipation. The vitiation of the Apan vata and the failure of the expulsion make the stool harder causing Vibandha.

Symptoms

  • Constipation
  • Hyper Acidity
  • Lack of appetite
  • Flatulence
  • Uneasy

A patient of kidney failure is having great suffering due to edema and swelling, so Gokhru plays a significant role in reducing swelling.

WHAT HAPPENS IN KIDNEY FAILURE?

There is swelling of hands or feet. One may feel tired and weak because body needs clean blood to function properly. Uremia (presence of urea in blood), if left untreated may lead to seizures or coma and will ultimately result in death. If kidneys stop working completely, one will need to undergo dialysis or kidney transplantation.

SYMPTOMS OF KIDNEY FAILURE

Kidney failure symptoms from buildup of wastes in the body:

  • A metallic taste in the mouth
  • Smell of ammonia in breath
  • Aversion to Protein intake (one does not want to eat meat, eggs, kidney beans and Dairy products)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Itching (pruritus)

Kidney failure symptoms from buildup of fluid in the body:

  • Swelling of face, feet and  hands
  • Shortness of breath
  • Collection of fluid in lungs

Kidney failure symptoms from damage to the kidneys:

  • Quantity of urine less than normal.
  • Blood in the urine (only seen through a microscope)
  • Urine that is foamy or bubbly (presence of  protein in the urine)

Kidney failure symptoms due to anemia:

  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Weakness
  • Mental confusion
  • Feeling cold all the time

CAUSES OF KIDNEY FAILURE

Renal function may be impaired by diseases or drugs that effect the renal parenchyma, or by acute circulatory failure or as a result of conditions in which there is obstruction to outflow of urine.

Major causes of kidney failure are as follows:

  • Reduced flow of blood to the kidneys
  • Acute dehydration
  • Liver malfunction
  • Heart diseases
  • Diabetes
  • Intake of medicines for controlling blood pressure
  • Prolonged use of antibiotics and painkillers
  • Blood loss from the body
  • Infection

Various other causes for acute renal failure is diseases like acute glomerulonephritis, bilateral pyelonephritis, high blood pressure and systemic lupus erythematous.

Chronic renal failure may result from conditions such as progressive glomerulonephritis, chronic pyelonephritis, polycystic disease of kidneys and tuberculosis of kidneys.

AYURVEDIC VIEW OF KIDNEY

According to Ayurveda, Kidneys are composed of rakta and meda dhatus (blood and fat). Kidneys are the roots of medhovaha srotas (channel of fat tissue). So diseases arising due to deformity of these dhatus (tissues) can affect kidneys and cause their failure. High blood pressure and Madhumeha (diabetes) are two main diseases responsible for kidney failure.

AYURVEDIC VIEW OF KIDNEY FAILURE

According to Ayurveda this disease is caused by the blockage of minute body channels called srotas. The body channels involved in this case, known as mutravaha srotas, which carry urine and are responsible for the flow of liquid into and out of the kidneys. If there are blockages in the incoming channels, the kidneys are denied fluids and shrinkage occurs.

If the outgoing channels are blocked, swelling occurs and the condition is called Hydronephrosis. In Hydronephrosis the kidney swells due to the failure of normal drainage of urine from the kidney to the bladder.

There are very effective Ayurvedic herbs, such as punanarva and gokhru that can clean these channels and reduce swelling and rejuvenate the kidneys. Ayurvedic treatment aims at strengthening the kidneys, restoring its filtration capacity and general functioning of the kidneys.

Controlling blood pressure, blood sugar level, cholesterol level, body weight, smoking and alcohol consumption is important to avoid further kidney damage.

  • To restrict sodium intake, salt is minimized in diet. So avoid salty food articles
  • Low Potassium and low protein intake is advised in Kidney failure patients.

Natural Ways To Reduce Creatinine Levels

Kidney failure, Renal failure, Reduce Creatinine Level

What is creatinine

Creatinine is waste product of muscle metabolism of our body and it is excreted out our body through excretory system. Creatinine is waste product found in everyone's blood. High level of creatinine in blood indicated that our kidneys are not functioning properly. Normal range of creatinine found in our body is mentioned below:

  • Males - 0.6- 1.2 mg/dl
  • Females - 0.5- 1.1mg/dl

Creatinine is produced naturally in our body and it is stored in muscles. Creatinine play are vast role in the process of production of ATP. Creatinine is eliminated through excretory system and there is no reabsorption of creatinine in blood stream.

Many factors contribute to accumulation of extra creatinine in blood. These factors may include:

  • Dehydration
  • Muscle destruction
  • Chemotherapies
  • Inadequate amount of fluid intake
  • Excessive intake of medicines

Increased level of creatinine may leads to kidney failure. There are some common symptoms that indicates high creatinine level in body. These symptoms may include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Less urine output
  • Dark color urine
  • Frequent urination during sleeping hours
  • fatigue

NATURAL WAYS TO REDUCE CREATININE LEVEL

1. CONTROL HYPERTENSION AND DIABETES

Both the conditions are very harmful for kidneys. It is very essential to keep your diabetes and hypertension in control. Medication of diabetes and hypertension contribute a lot to accumulation of creatinine in blood.so it is very necessary to make you happy and relax. Try to take natural herbs to reduce the risk of renal failure because it is very necessary to control that conditions which disturb creatinine level of blood.

2. MASSAGE
