TESTS AND DIAGNOSIS

To diagnose scabies doctor examine skin, looking for signs of mites including the characteristic burrows.
During examination the doctor locates for a mite burrow, then takes a sample of the infected area of skin to examine under a microscope determining the presence of mites or their eggs.

WHAT IS GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS (GM)?

It is rare chronic inflammatory condition of breast. In this condition the breast gets inflamed and develops a tissue mass. It is difficult to differentiate from breast cancer because it is similar to breast cancer. It may occur at any time but it is most common after 2-6 years of pregnancy. It may involve all parts of breast. It may present as distinct firm lump mostly in sub areolar region (area behind nipples) of breast.

GM is divided into two types - Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (Granular lobular mastitis) and Granulomatous mastitis.

SYMPTOMS OF GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS

Common Sign and Symptoms of GM are given below:

• Formation of lumps in breasts
• Breast inflammation
• Excretion of fluid from breasts
• Pain in breasts
• Retraction of the nipples
• Enlargements of lymph nodes
• Fever
• Warmth feeling in breast on touch.

CAUSES OF GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS

The exact cause of GM is unknown. It is an autoimmune disease. Some of other causes may be:

• Blockage of milk duct: If breast is not completely empty after feeding, it may block milk duct or become clogged that results in breast infection.
• Bacterial infection: Sometimes a bacteria may enter milk duct of breast through baby’s mouth or through surface that results in infection.
• Elevated prolactin level.

DIAGNOSIS OF GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS

It is difficult to diagnose only on the basis of symptoms. Doctors diagnose GM on the basis of physical examination and some tests.

Physical examination - doctors diagnose symptoms such as fever, chills, pain and area around the nipples of breast.

COMPLICATIONS

Disc is shock-absorbing pads which are present between the bones of the spine. They are also called as intervertebral discs. The center of the disc is called as nucleus, which consist of gel like substance that receives shock of standing, walking or running. A disc may bulge, split, or rupture due to some external pressure on them; the condition is commonly called as "slip" (slip disc).

A slip disc injury is a common injury that takes place in the intervertebral disc. It can occur in the lower back (in lumbar spine), upper and mid-back (in thoracic spine) or in the neck (in cervical spine). Because of this, disc cartilage and the tissues which are nearby can fail, this condition is called herniated, due to which the disc rupture and the gel like substance from the inner part of the disc come out to the surrounding tissues. This can place pressure on the spinal cord or on an adjoining nerve to cause symptoms of pain, numbness, or weakness around the injured disc or anywhere along the area where the nerves are present.

It can commonly call as a slipped disc, bulging disc, a protruding disc or Herniated disc.

SYMPTOMS OF A SLIPPED DISC INCLUDE

Symptoms of slip disc depend on the location or the type of tissues involved.

THE SYMPTOMS INVOLVE:

If the rupture/ bulging disc has taken place in the back (thoracic spine):
