Home Remedies For Heart Pain

Herbal remedies have been used for centuries to support heart health. Some herbs may help reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, and lower stress levels.

  1. Ginger - Ginger has powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve circulation and reduce blood pressure. Drinking ginger tea or adding fresh ginger to meals may help alleviate mild chest pain related to poor circulation or anxiety.
  2. Garlic - Garlic is known for its heart-healthy benefits, including its ability to lower cholesterol and blood pressure and reduce inflammation. Eating raw garlic or using it in cooking can promote overall heart health and help relieve pain linked to cardiovascular issues.
  3. Krishna Kamal - It is also called the passion flower and is traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine for its potential heart health benefits, including helping to control hypertension and improve overall heart function, strengthening heart muscles.
  4. Black cummin (Kalonji) - Kalonji oil is known to reduce bad cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglycerides, thus reducing the risk of heart ailments. Including kalonji in your diet can encourage healthy blood circulation and decrease the chances of heart attacks.
  5. Turmeric - Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound that may help reduce pain and inflammation in the chest. Turmeric can be consumed as a tea or in supplement form to promote heart health and relieve discomfort. Additionally, it may help reduce inflammation associated with heartburn or other digestive issues that cause chest pain.
  6. Hawthorn - It is a popular herb for promoting heart health. It contains antioxidants and compounds that help dilate blood vessels, improve blood flow, and reduce heart strain. Hawthorn tea or supplements can be taken, but it's essential to check with a healthcare professional before use, especially if you're on medication.
  7. Lemon Balm - Lemon balm is known for its calming effects, making it an ideal remedy for stress-induced chest pain. It can help alleviate anxiety and tension that could contribute to heart pain. Lemon balm can be consumed as a tea or tincture for its relaxing and heart-soothing properties.

To use, dilute one tablespoon of Apple cider vinegarin a glass of warm water and drink it before meals. Apple cider vinegar can balance stomach acids and reduce irritation that might lead to heart-related discomfort.
    • How To Use It - To use apple cider vinegar for heart pain, mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with a glass of warm water. You can add honey for sweetness if desired. Drink this concoction once or twice a day. Some people also recommend adding a little apple cider vinegar to meals to enjoy its cardiovascular benefits.

Some Precautions And Physical Exercises

  1. Warm Compress - Applying a warm compress to the chest area can help relax the muscles and relieve discomfort associated with heart pain. A heating pad or warm towel placed over the chest can provide soothing relief and may help alleviate muscle tension that could be contributing to the pain.
  2. Deep Breathing and Meditation - Stress and anxiety are common triggers for chest pain or discomfort. Practicing deep breathing exercises, yoga, and meditation can help manage stress and promote relaxation. Deep breathing encourages better oxygen flow to the heart and can reduce muscle tension in the chest.
  3. Yoga - Yoga combines gentle movements, stretching, and deep breathing, making it an excellent way to improve heart health and reduce pain. Many yoga poses, such as the Child's Pose and the Cat-Cow Pose, can help open up the chest and relieve tension, easing discomfort.

Some Dietary Changes For Heart Health

    • Berries (Blueberries, Strawberries, Raspberries)
    • Fatty fish (Salmon, Mackerel, Sardines)
    • Olive oil
    • Turmeric (with black pepper to enhance absorption)
  2. Reduce Salt Intake - Excessive sodium can lead to high blood pressure, which can contribute to heart pain. Try reducing your intake of processed foods, canned soups, and fast food, and aim to cook fresh meals at home using minimal salt.
  3. Magnesium-Rich Foods - Magnesium plays a vital role in muscle function, including the heart. Low magnesium levels can contribute to heart-related symptoms, including chest pain and irregular heart rhythms. Increasing magnesium intake can support heart function and help relieve discomfort. Some examples are Dark leafy greens (spinach, kale), Nuts and seeds (almonds, pumpkin seeds), Avocados, Bananas, Beans
Adding more magnesium-rich foods to your diet may help prevent or alleviate heart pain. Magnesium supplements can also be considered, but always consult a doctor first.
  4. Healthy diet  - A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can improve overall heart health and reduce the risk of heart pain caused by dietary factors. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like salmon, flaxseeds, and walnuts, may help reduce inflammation and improve heart health.
    • How It Helps - A healthy diet for heart disease can support cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of heart-related symptoms or conditions that cause chest pain.

Conclusion

Heart pain can be a distressing symptom, but natural remedies can often provide relief, especially when the cause is related to stress, anxiety, or mild circulatory issues. Herbal remedies, relaxation techniques, dietary adjustments, and other home treatments can all contribute to alleviating discomfort and promoting heart health. However, it's essential to consult with a healthcare provider to rule out any serious conditions and develop a personalized treatment plan. Always prioritize your well-being and act swiftly if you suspect a more serious heart issue.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Triple Vessel Disease - Symptoms, Causes & Herbal Remedies

Human heart has three main coronary arteries. When the blood vessels supplying blood, oxygen and nutrients to the heart gets damaged or plague gets build up  in arteries or there is  inflammation in arteries, it  leads to coronary artery disease wherein the arteries get narrowed thereby decreasing the blood flow to the heart.

Depending on the number of vessels that are narrowed, one has single, double and triple vessel disease. Critical narrowing of the arteries leads to angina or chest pain and shortness of breath. This usually occurs after physical activity or due to stress. A complete blockage leads to heart attack. It is more common in males than in females. It is a chronic disease.

The main cause of triple vessel or three vessel coronary artery disease is atherosclerosis which is a condition in which cholesterol accumulates in the artery walls, resulting in abnormal and gradual thickening of the lining of the heart arteries, causing the blood flow to be restricted.

According to Ayurveda, heart problem is termed as Hrid Shula which means pain in and around the heart. It is due to Vata imbalance.

CAUSES

Smoking, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and high blood fat levels or cholesterol levels are the main causes of coronary artery disease. A diet low in antioxidants, rich in saturated fats leads to blockage of arteries. Lack of exercise or sedentary lifestyle, stress, alcohol also contribute to the problem. Sleep apnea, high triglyceride levels, high sensitivity to C reactive protein may also lead to triple vessel disease.

Age is one of the cause too especially after the age of 40.

SYMPTOMS

The symptoms are usually visible in advanced stage of disease. Chest pain spreading from left arm or neck, back, throat or jaw, shortness of breath, palpitations, giddiness, cold sweaty hands etc are some of the visible symptoms of triple vessel disease.

Some complain of numbness in arms, shoulders and wrists. Vertigo and dizziness, nausea and vomiting, weakness, cold feet, loss of appetite, heartburn, loss of vision on one side , trouble during climbing heights or steps , getting emotional and irritated are other less common symptoms of triple vessel disease. Feeling of heaviness or someone squeezing the heart is another common symptom.

DIAGNOSE

Electrocardiogram, Echocardiogram, exercise stress test, nuclear scan test, stress thallium tests and cardiac catheterization or angiogram and CT scan are some of the ways to determine blocked arteries.

TREATMENT

Medicines aim at lowering the cholesterol levels and thereby decreasing the strain on the heart. In extreme cases, the affected arteries are reopened using an angioplasty and rerouted using cardiac bypass surgery.

Ayurvedic treatment for triple vessel disease aims at regulating blood pressure so that the functioning of heart gets easy .The herbs also work towards removing plaques from the walls of arteries to maintain a constant blood flow.
