METHOD OF PREPARATION

All the purified and finely levigated Bhasmas are taken in their specified proportions. They are first sieved to ensure homogeneity. These powders are then triturated with Go-dugdha (cow’s milk) and subsequently with each of the nine other bhavna dravyas (Trituration Media) i.e. – Ikshu Ras (Sugarcane juice), Vasa Swaras (Adhatoda vasica), Kamal pushap ras (Nelumbo nucifera  flower juice), Sugandh Bala Kwath (decoction of Valeriana wallichii), Haldi swaras (curcumin juice), Kadlikand Swaras (Musa paradisiaca Juice), Gulab Jal (Rosa damascena), Chameli Pushp Ras (Jasminum grandiflorum flower juice), Kasturi Jal (Water of deer musk) for seven consecutive Bhavana (levigation). Each trituration continues until the mixture attains a uniform soft texture. Small pills of about 125 mg are rolled and dried in shade (chhaya-shoshita). The pills are stored in airtight glass containers.

  • Better to avoid in hypertension, pregnancy, or acute febrile conditions.
  • Overdosage may cause Pitta vriddhi or metallic imbalance.
  • Should always be consumed with suitable Anupana for Samskara Anuvartana (proper assimilation)

It plays a crucial role in evaluating gastrointestinal diseases, pancreatic disorders, and certain cancers by providing high-resolution visualisation beyond the capabilities of conventional imaging methods. EUS allows physicians not only to examine internal structures but also to obtain tissue samples through guided procedures. The technique enhances diagnostic accuracy, assists in disease staging, and supports therapeutic interventions. Due to its precision and safety, EUS has become an essential tool in modern gastroenterology and oncology. Its integration with fine-needle aspiration has further expanded its clinical applications. By placing the ultrasound transducer directly inside the body through the digestive tract, the technique produces highly detailed images. SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLE BEHIND THE TEST

  • The Processor: A computer system that simultaneously displays the high-definition video feed (endoscopy) and the sonographic cross-section (ultrasound).
  • FNA/FNB Needles: Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) or biopsy (FNB) tools that can be passed through a working channel in the scope to collect tissue samples under real-time ultrasound guidance.
  • Coupling Medium: To ensure the sound waves travel efficiently into the tissue, a small balloon at the tip of the scope is often inflated with water, or water is infused into the organ cavity to eliminate air pockets.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?

The procedure is typically performed in an outpatient setting and follows these primary stages:

  • Preparation: Patients must fast for at least 6 to 8 hours to ensure the upper GI tract is clear. If the EUS is being performed on the lower tract (rectal EUS), a laxative or enema is required.

  • Anatomical Variations: Obesity or severe scoliosis can sometimes shift internal organs into positions that are difficult to reach via the GI tract.

  • Higher Resolution: It provides much higher resolution images of the GI wall and pancreas than MRI or CT.
