Gomutra (Cow Urine) - Medicinal Uses & Health Benefits

Gomutra is cow's urine which has been used since ages for the therapeutic purpose in India's ancient system of medicine, i.e. Ayurveda. Its use has a long history in Indian culture. Cow in India is also worshipped as a sacred entity. Pregnant cow's urine is said and believed to contain many beneficial hormones like growth hormone, gonadotropins, erythropoietin etc. and minerals like iron, silicon, magnesium, calcium etc. Therapy of cow urine is a cleansing and detoxifying process instead of nourishing in nature. It is used to treat many health problems (almost 108 diseases) since ages in India. Cow's urine is considered as nectar which gives strength, immunity, and long life. Cow urine contains substances that are already present in the human body. Hence consumption of cow urine is useful to maintain the balance of these substances and cures incurable diseases.

WHAT ALL DOES A COW'S URINE CONSIST OF?

It is full of many healthy components, some of them are:

  • Urea- It is the main content present in cow's urine which acts as a powerful antibacterial agent.
  • Enzymeurokinase- This element helps in preventing and dissolving blood clots. It also improves overall blood circulation.
  • Iron- It is an important component required for synthesis of RBCs.
  • Nitrogen- Diuretic, stimulates kidney increases frequency, and the quantity of urine.
  • Salts- These have an antibacterial property that helps in the prevention of various infections.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF GOMUTRA?

  • Cow's urine is used in the Ayurvedic treatment of leprosy and cancer.
  • Fever can be treated by using Gomutra. For treating fever a mixture is prepared by mixing gomutra, ghee, and black pepper in equal proportion. Have this mixture once or twice daily.
  • A sore throat can be treated by gargling with the mixture of distilled cow urine (Gomutra), turmeric powder, and honey.
  • Gomutra mixed with Daruharidra (Berberis aristata) can be used to treat epilepsy.
  • Asthma, peptic ulcer, and liver ailments can be treated with the help of Gomutra.
  • Antimicrobial, antibiotic, antibacterial, and antifungal agents are promoted by Gomutra.
  • Rasanjana, i.e. water extract of Daruharidra (Berberis aristata) is given with Gomutra to treat skin diseases originated by Kapha Dosha.
  • It helps to treat bloating and abdominal colic.
  • All the toxins are flushed out by consumption of Gomutra. Hence many health risks are reduced like obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

WHAT SHOULD BE THE DOSE OF GOMUTRA?

It will be better to start with 3-4 drops of Gomutra and can be taken once or twice a day. Gradually the dose can be increased to one teaspoon, twice a day.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN IN CASE OF GOMUTRA?

  • In case the cow is infected, Gomutra can be infected. So take gomutra only from the healthy cow.
  • Gomutra should not be stored in raw condition for more than one hour.
  • It should be taken only as prescribed by the Ayurvedic physician.
