Ayurvedic Treatment for Kikuchi disease Or Histolytic Necrotizing Lymphadenitis (HNL)

KIKUCHI DISEASE (HNL)

Kikuchi disease is a rare, benign condition of lymph nodes. It is non- cancerous and non-malignant disorder. It is also called Histiocytic Necrotizing Lymphadenitis or Kikuchi Fujimoto disease. It is considered to be autoimmune disorder and is infectious. It is not a hereditary disorder as it occurs sporadically in people. The disease gets better on its own within one to four months which makes it a self-limited disease.

Kikuchi is more common in young women between 20 to 30 years of age and is known to occur with greater frequency in Southeast Asia. Kikuchi is not a life threatening or chronic disease.

SYMPTOMS OF KIKUCHI DISEASE

The symptoms of Kikuchi may develop slowly over two to three weeks.

Swollen Lymph nodes in the neck which develop all of a sudden. The lesions or tissue anomalies of this disorder cause the lymph nodes to become enlarged, inflamed and painful.

Mild fever along with headaches, Night sweats, Weight loss, nausea, vomiting and sore throat occurs. In some cases there could also be some upper respiratory infection.

Red Rash, abdominal pain and fatigue are also symptoms associated with Kikuchi disease.

There is muscle or joint pain reported by affected patients.

Affected individuals may experience abnormal enlargement of the liver or spleen.

CAUSE OF KIKUCHI DISEASE

The exact cause of Kikuchi disease is unknown. It is an idiopathic disorder. According to some researchers, it is caused due to a virus, for some it is an autoimmune disorder. The most widely accepted theory by experts is that Kikuchi disease is the result of some unidentified agents triggering a self-limited autoimmune process. These agents could be infections, chemicals, plastic or neoplastic agents.

DIAGNOSES OF KIKUCHI DISEASE

Kikuchi can be identified with biopsy of the tissue in the affected lymph nodes. The diagnoses is based on the presence of signs and symptoms.

Other laboratory tests and imaging studies may be recommended to support the diagnoses or rule out other problems. An ultrasound, CT scan or MRI can only confirm the presence of enlarged lymph nodes but cannot confirm the disease.

There are no blood tests to confirm the problem.
