WHAT IS TMJ (TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DYSFUNCTION)

Temporomandibular joint is a hinge which connects human jawbone to its skull. It functions like a sliding hinge. It controls the jaw movement. These joints contain containing muscles, tendons, and bones. When we swallow, chew or talk the TMJ starts its mechanism.

TMJ DISORDER

It is characterized by pain in muscles along with joints of the jaw. Depending on the cause pain can occur on either side of jaws. Depending on the severity of injury the pain may be felt during chewing, speaking or at rest. A localized pain disorder in the jaw is called temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome.
