Pellegrini Stieda Syndrome - Causes, Symptoms and Ayurvedic treatment

Ayurvedic treatment is the natural way to treat Pellegrini stieda syndrome. With the Ayurvedic treatment, it is possible to avoid surgery. It is one of a rare joint problem and is easy to manage with the help of Ayurvedic treatment.

What is Pellegrini Stieda Syndrome

Pellegrini-Stieda syndrome is a condition of knee pain that occurs due to the deposition of calcium on the inner (medial) side of the knee. The calcification occurs at the junction where the medial collateral ligament (MCL) is connected to the femur. The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is the ligament that connects the thigh bone and shin bone together.

CAUSES OF PELLEGRINI-STIEDA SYNDROME

The Pellegrini stieda syndrome usually occurs in the patients who have often suffered with the medial collateral ligament injury.

SYMPTOMS OF PELLEGRINI STIEDA SYNDROME

The swelling, inflammation and pain in the knee are the symptoms of the Pellegrini stieda syndrome. A person suffering from Pellegrini Stieda Syndrome will have difficulty in straightening, bending, twisting and moving the knee and these knee movements will be too painful. There may be the formation of lump inside the knee and knee becomes tender.

LIGAMENT INJURY IN AYURVEDA

In general, stretching of a ligament leads to sprain in the ligament. Ligament sprain may involve single or more ligaments. Ligaments are such tough tissues that connects two or more bones together. These fibrous and strong wire like bands attaches the two or more joint bones together. Ligaments support the joints and keep them in their proper place and this is the main role of the ligaments. Ligament helps in lifting, lowering, or rotating the arms as well as the legs.

Ligament is related to mamsa dhatu, in Ayurveda. There are three doshas of the body which are considered as the body’s energies in Ayurveda. Injury in the ligament causes imbalance in the two doshas of the body. These doshas are Vata dosha and Pitta dosha. Ayurveda offers an Ayurvedic treatment for the ligament injury. The Ayurvedic treatment aims at reducing the pain, inflammation and swelling of the ligament. Ayurveda helps to restore the affected ligament to its normal health.

HOW AYURVEDA HELPS TO TREAT JOINT PROBLEMS?

Ayurveda is an ancient system of health care that has its roots in India. Ayurveda offers a natural way to take care of the body. There are two main reasons, according to Ayurveda, that are responsible for the joint disorders. Weakness in the joints is the first reason behind the joint disorders. A poorly nourished joints are more prone to the injury.

Joint problems may occur due to the overload of toxic substances in the joints. Accumulation of the toxic substances in turn, leads to the formation of more toxins in the body. These toxins are known as “ama”, in Ayurveda. Ama are the waste products of the incomplete digestion. Ayurveda says, that stiffness and heaviness in the joints are caused by this accumulation of the ama in the joints. If this ama is allowed to stay in the joints for a long time, then it can cause several complications. If, it is left untreated, then it leads to painful and swollen joints. This condition may get worse in damp and cold weather.

Here are some ways that helps reduce the amount of ama (toxins) in the body:

  • We should take warm meals that can easily be digested.
  • Excessive intake of white sugar and alcohol should be avoided. Instead take, unprocessed raw honey. This raw honey helps to scrape away ama from the body.
  • Do not include Dairy products such as ice cream and cheese in your diet.
  • A thin layer of castor oil should be applied to the affected joints before applying a heating pad in order to support joint comfort and scrape ama.
  • Bowels should be emptied regularly and colon should always be clean.
  • Hot water should be preferred over the cold water. Tea that is prepared using dry ginger root should be taken as this tea is beneficial for reducing ama.
  • Ujjayi and Nadi Shodana pranayama are good to remove the toxins from the body.
